Wow. I must be one piss poor God. I haven't done half of the fiendish things you guys have done. Sure, it's an MG book, but whatevs.

Anyone else find it funny that "a God" has the power to do right by your MC but decides to destroy their lives instead? I mean, if "a God" has to power for both good and evil, then what's the point of the "anti-God"? That pretty much makes the Devil obsolete, don't you think? Ramble, ramble, *cough*... *crickets*

Yeah, but where's the fun in that? Do we want to read about happy, joyful people with great lives? NO! We want misery! We want suffering! CHAAAARGE!!!! :e2chain::troll:sword::flamethrower

Wow! That's a lot of good responses from a rather simple question.

To Crescendo2020, you are generally correct in describing an InfoDump, but that subject is fully covered in other threads, like here and here and here (just a few I have read). Not being mean or anything, just pointing in the right direction.

(OT: an info dump explicitly means too much information being thrown at the reader at once; it's a subjective classification and will depend entirely on the reader's tolerance.)

I've never really felt like a god or creator when I've written. I view the process as more of a collaboration with whatever setting/characters I've come up with. Not sure if that makes much sense.

As for being a "good" and "bad" god to your story, I think it would be best to be unpredictable, to keep the worshipers on their toes or knees, ready to pray and worship at a moment's notice. :evil

Well, I tried to control my characters. Than they refused to do anything. Now I let them run their own life with the occasional hint of where I want them to go.
As they say.
Life is a journey, time is a river, the door is ajar.

I think god is just an author, and no good story ever transpired without anything bad ever happening.

But sometimes the characters refuse to listen, and sometimes the author is at their mercy.

And I think that makes humanity a kind of god, too.

My characters won't worship me. In fact, they're downright disrespectful. If I were to try to change their names, they'd strangle me in my sleep.

S-o-o-o this! Although, if you think of God creating us with free will to do things God's way or our own I guess you've pretty much got the same thing haven't you.:D

My favorite is adding or shaving off a few years of a character's age, depending on what (s)he needs.
