I bought my son-in-law a mandolin. He thought he was being careful, but learned quickly there's careful and then there's careful.

I have one, but don't use it often. It's not that I'm scared of using it, it's the washing of the thing that terrifies me. So many ways to get sliced.

We have a mandolin but find ourselves using a dicing contraption more frequently. Simple way to add diced veggies to everything. Annoying to clean though. I think I always end up with a toothpick for crevices but still faster overall than dicing by hand.

Good luck with the mandolin!

And the fingers.

Very nice! I got my own sometime last year. I've used it once and loved it, but I will admit is does frighten me, even with a glove and a guard, and also, like, I just really like chopping stuff with a normal knife. It's meditative. I want to make homemade chips though, so...mandolin.

That was a shock, I was picturing a musical instrument.
Same here, at first! I'm reading about finger-slicing and thinking that if a mandolin (lute) will do that, how do modern guitarists, with steel strings, ever survive?

Me too!

Today I'll be hand-cubing about a gallon of chokos to freeze down for stews -- all of which got frosted and damaged last night. We lost the entire crop and all the vines.
