Hi all, I'm new here. My name is Adrian, I'm 38 years old and I was born in Brazil. I moved to the US when I was 19 years old and fell in love with the language, truth be told I used to get D's in Portuguese and A+ in English in my school years. Perhaps I spoke English in a past life :) although judging by my grammar I highly doubt it.
I recently just finished THE GUARDIAN OF THRESHOLD a YA urban/paranormal fantasy.

I was wondering if anyone would know where do I find a more comprehensive 'Newbie Guide' because I read it and I went to post on a forum only to quickly find out that there were rules that I had no clue about.

I made a post yesterday on the YA board inquiring about the beginning of my YA book and I was told that I shouldn't have made such a post because I didn't have yet 50 posts under my belt and later said post was removed, which is fine but I'm left wondering what other rules I may not know about it.

I read the 'Newbie Guide' before posting and didn't see that rule in there. Is there a place where I can read all the different rules so that I don't make a fool out of myself again?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Not where you last saw me.
Hi, Simplesolid. Welcome to AW.

On the first page of the forum, under the first category "Welcome to the Water Cooler", you'll see a section called "FAQs". Just about any question you have is answered there under dedicated threads.

Right There!

At the top of the home page and at the top of every page, just beneath the blue and white Absolute Write logo is a link titled "The Newbie Guide to Absolute Write." I clicked on it a month ago--alongside the FAQ that Ari Meermans mentioned--and that has made all the difference.

Welcome, Simplesolid!

Writing samples intended for critique should be posted in the Share Your Work area, not in the genre discussion forums on the open board.

The reason for the 50-post requirement is explained in the sticky info threads (see here, password=vista).

Take some time and read the Newbie Guide and the Stickies found
at the top of Forum pages. They are your best guide to learning about
Absolute Write.

Don’t forget to read the FAQ regarding posting pictures at AW.

Members who want to start a thread in Share Your Work to have work critiqued need
50 posts. Don’t make a mad dash to reach your 50 posts. Take some time to greet fellow newbies,
critique other members’ works, or join a discussion.

If specific rules apply to a forum they will be in the stickies on the top of that forum's page.

Welcome, Simplesolid!

Thanks for the welcome.

I read the "Newbie Guide" but there was no mention of what I should or should not post. Also the Forum Young-Adult didn't have any stickies on rules.
I understand the 50 post minimum, I just wish that information was in the Newbie Guide so my gaffe could have been avoided.
Happy writing.

On that FAQ is different from the blue bar FAQ. That's exactly I was looking for thank you very much.

Welcome Adrian! The link is at the top of the page:
Welcome to the AbsoluteWrite Water Cooler! Please read The Newbie Guide To Absolute Write

Hope that helps. You can get 50 posts relatively quickly by welcoming fellow members, and commenting on various submissions also.

Just check for "sticky" threads at the top of any forum you're interested in to see if there are additional guidelines.

The guidelines for the Share Your Work section can be found in the stickies in the SYW room. You simply posted in the wrong room. It's okay; it happens. :)

When you have your 50 posts, you can create your own thread in the Share Your Work section. Until then, spend some time in SYW providing feedback for other people (you can post in SYW right now. You just can't post your own work, yet). Writers can learn a lot by providing critiques for others - and members will be more willing to spend time helping you with your work if you spend a little time giving to the community first (that's part of the reason for the minimum-post requirement).

Welcome to AW. :welcome:

The 50 post requirement is ALSO prominently featured in the "Welcome" private message that every new member receives upon opening an account.

You know...the part that says:
If you're here looking to post your work for feedback, that's terrific! You'll notice that members with fewer than 50 posts won't be able to create new threads in Share Your Work rooms, yet. You can still comment on other people's work, though, and we encourage you to do so -- and you can still start your own thread in other rooms, like to introduce yourself in the Newbie Forum.

To bump up your post count, consider reading current SYW threads and posting comments on other writers' work; consider introducing yourself in the Newbie Forum (if you haven't already) and greeting other new arrivals; AW is a community, and as a community, we all invest our time and energy in one another.

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the 'forum jump' you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. After you post 50 posts you can use the SYW areas to get help there. The password for some of the areas is…..vista. A word to the wise, it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.
