My long post wouldn’t post.
Absolute Write has a character limit; posts longer than 25,000 characters will not post.
Be aware that use of bold, italic, color, and smilies adds invisibly to the total character count. When you turn the word “hello” into hello, it goes from five characters to thirty-three like this (except with straight brackets): {b}{color=green}hello{/color}{/b}. So if your post won’t post and you suspect it’s the length, the first things to edit out are colors, font changes, alignment, etc.
Want to see the code? Select the three dots on the right side of the formatting list (to the right of Insert Image), then select the brackets </>. This will show all codes. Sometimes codes linger that aren’t actually being used, using up space. For example, you could have turned bold on and off and on and off like this only with straight brackets: {b}{/b}{b}{/b}green. Only green would show, in normal text, but there are fourteen wasted characters.
When your post is too long, we recommend finding a place to split it, writing Continued in next post or something similar at the break, and turning it into two posts.
Because lengthy posts can be problematic, we urge members to save a copy on their own device until the post actually posts. It’s rare, but sometimes long posts disappear.
