ArmadilloCon32 (Austin's Literary Fantasy & SF Con) is coming up Aug 27-29. Is anyone planning on going? This will be my third year attending.

Nancy Kress will be there, so I'll have to dig up my copy of Beggars in Spain for her to sign. :)

Maybe next year, then! It's always nice to meet AW folks in person.

The Renaissance Hotel is really close to where I live, and I never even knew that there was going to be a con there.

I think I want to go, but I've never been to a con before. What are they like?

Odds are good I'll be down there from Dallas. Probably just for one day though, and it depends on Nancy's availability. I'll post a note if some AW'ers want to gather for drinks and such.

Cool, Eric. Hope to see you there!

Krysondra, it mostly consists of panels that discuss SFF topics, many of those related to writing. There are also author readings, lots of networking opportunities, art shows/auctions, and a room with tons of books for purchase. (Plus after parties!) It's pretty laid back (no one dresses up in costumes, or anything), and the people are super friendly. It's easy to strike up conversations with strangers, even if you're introverted like me. :)

Very very tempting.

I don't know if it'll be possible. I'll have to see. Looks like fun, though!

I'm really tempted. The hubby's got a computer conference that weekend so it's not like I'll have anything to do... I'm just shy so I'm afraid that if I don't have someone to go with, I won't go. Maybe I'll see what my writing group is doing....

Or I'd love to meet up with some AWers! Even though I'm new here, you guys (ya'll in my vernacular) have made me feel so welcome.

They're terrible places.
They're full of writers who'll talk to you if you give them a chance

I'll probably make it there for Saturday, if not the whole weekend. It'd be a shame to miss a good lit con in a city I'm already in.

Cool! Sounds like we'll have enough people for an AW meetup!

Any meetup plans?

(I'm back, exhausted, but still planning to make it!)

I'm totally game for a meetup. Would Sat. or Sun. be best for everybody?

I'm up for it too. I think I'm supposed to be volunteering, but haven't heard anything firm yet. Maybe something Saturday after 5pm or Sunday after 1pm? I'll probably be sticking around for the parties on Saturday night, so that's an option too.

Sunday after 2 works perfect for me (that is if I'm still standing by then!)
