Hi! I'm Jill and I'm a retired English teacher living in Richmond, Va. I still teach part time-teenagers are great! They give me inspiration for the teen characters I write about in my YA novels (unfortunately, still unpublished). I've been writing since I was a kid and can't seem to stay away from it. I'd love to talk with other writers. Hope to hear from you...

Welcome, Jabell70! Congratulations on all of those things: being retired, teaching English, loving teenagers, and having finished a novel.

You'll find heaps of YA writers here to chat with!

You're going to find lots of other YA writers here, which means you're at the right place. Welcome!

I don't write for teens, but I like teenagers, too. Even the "bad" ones seems to be okay one on one, when you're not challenging them. And some of them write, or think they might like to, and the bad ones are often the ones with something to say even at a tender age.

Welcome to AW, Jill! It's great to meet you.

You've happened upon an excellent writing place, in my opinion. AW has everything a writer needs, both in terms of information on the craft and business of writing and in terms of an awesome community of likeminded writerly folk to hang out with. The forums are vast and it can be easy to get lost at first but if you take your time exploring you'll know your way around soon enough.

Please carefully read the Newbies Guide you were linked to when you registered, as well as the stickied threads at the top of each forum page. These will help you to quickly understand the rules of the forums as well as the culture and etiquette of each space within. They'll also help you avoid potentially embarrassing newbie mistakes :)

You might find our Young Adult room a good place to start exploring from, or perhaps our Novels discussion space. Explore, lurk if you want, join in conversations you find fun or interesting if you want, make friends, enjoy yourself!

See you around the boards :D

Welcome.

I imagine it's rather useful that you teach teens while writing YA, both to stay on top of trends as well as to have age-appropriate beta readers.

You mention having written a few YA novels that have thus far gone unpublished. Out of curiosity, are they standalones? Part of a series? What's the genre(s)?
