Absolute Write’s IRC-Based Chat

How to get into the AW Chat Room

The AW chat room is located here

* You can use your Web browser to chat on IRC, but you will need to have Java.

You may have better luck using an IRC client/application like mIRC for Windows or Colloquy for OS X. Most operating systems have IRC software.

Many people use a Web Browser plug-in or add-on for Firefox and Mozilla called ChatZilla.

To Enter the AW Chat Room from a Web Browser:

  1. Click the link
  2. Next to Nick, enter your AW Username (or the id you want to use in the chat room).
  3. Next to Please Enter the Name of the Room you want to go to, type absolutewrite (it should already say this, but just in case).
  4. Next to Channel/Room Key: Don’t enter anything. No password is needed for the AW main chat.
  5. Click Connect to StarChat

Using an IRC Client (that is an IRC application or software for using IRC):

  1. Open your IRC application.
  2. Type /join #absolutewrite
  3. Click Enter. This should open up the chat room.
  4. If necessary, change your nick to your AW Username. (You can do this by typing /nick name-you-want-to-use so if you want it to be Bob, type: /nick Bob

Using ChatZilla

  1. In ChatZilla Type: /server irc.starchat.net)
  2. If prompted for password for your id, enter your chat (nick) password.
  3. Type: /join #absolutewrite
  4. The room is open whenever there’s an available Chat Op to moderate. Because of reported problems when the room isn’t moderated, we no longer leave the room open when there’s no available chat mod.

There’s also a dedicated AW Crit Circle Chat Room

How to get into the AW Crit Circle Chat Room

  5. Next to Channel/Room Key (optional) type birolsangels.
  6. Click Connect to StarChat

Using an IRC Client:

  1. Open your IRC application.
  2. Type /join #awcritcircle birolsangels
  3. Press enter. This should open up the chat room we will be using.
  4. If necessary, change your nick to your AW Username.

Using ChatZilla

  1. In ChatZilla Type: /server irc.starchat.net).
  2. (If prompted for password for your id, enter your chat (nick) password).
