How long should each piece be?

I'm new to it, but I've been really enjoying writing flash fiction. I can't promise I'd be in for every day, but I'd certainly tackle a few. Does it have to be all or nothing? Will the pieces be posted?

Hey Soccer Mom, have you considered posting your idea in the Short Fiction forum. I bet you could tempt some folks over there who haven't visited Suddenly Fiction.

I'll sticky this until the end of March, so it's easier to find for those wanting to participate.

I would like to keep up with more short pieces. But if re-writes eat up all my time or brain-power, it may not be a good time.

A challenge is just the boot in the muse I need! I'm in, although I'll probably miss a few around the middle of the month as I drive the 15 hours to Wisconsin as soon as my daughter lets us know she's ready to deliver her first baby.

I'm really interested! I might not get one done each day, though.

I also want to illustrate my stories, with my new prismacolor pencils. A little art therapy

I want to keep mine at less than 100 words. I've really been enjoying the FlashShot e-mails I get each morning.

Maybe I will I must warn you that it will look like the work of a precocious child, though.

Last time my Post Traumatic Stress Disorder was this bad I produced an amazing volume of really bad poetry and drawings. My best friend, who has them all, was just saying that if I ever become famous, she will be rich, selling my hospital creations to the tabloids. I think the poem and drawing of my pencil sharpener was probably the worst :-0

When you write and draw for therapy, you creations are well... unique...especially when you are drugged And when I'm like this, I don't even care who sees my junk. I'm writing it for ME, not anyone else. It's funny how different that is from writing for an audience. The worse my stuff is, the more my friend and I laugh.

Thanks for saying it clearer than I did. Art therapy is about the process. There is something special about concentrating on the process and just living in the moment. Something reminiscent of childhood, when we still knew how to play.

I ordered a few instructional books from Amazon, on writing Flash Fiction, a few days ago. I hope they come in soon and are helpful. I also put some anthologies on order at the library. All of my poetry writing was learned from children's books, that were so much more fun than adult prompts. Hmm... I might have to look around for children's short story writing books. They should be geared towards an under 1000 word story, don't you think?

This is a great idea and I would love to participate.

I hope it will help all of us to write more. Plus having all of you do it as well might give me a good, creative push in the right direction.

Anyway, I've been a slackard as of late and I've decided to challenge myself and I wanted to invite others to play along. Welcome to FAD: Flash a Day. Every day for the month of March, I'm going to write a flash fiction piece. At the end of the month, I'll have 31 pieces done. Woot!

Now I don't expect all of them to be worth polishing and subbing, but if I can find 10 gems out of the rockpile, well I consider that a useful month.

But you don't have 31 ideas? Pfft! I've already compiled a list of prompts for anyone who needs one. I'll post a new one each day in March to help us along.

Oh, now I see (said the blind man who skims these posts), this is just a promotional thread, it ain't started yet... you should call it The March FAD so everyone knows when it's happening.. like February Album Writing Month or National November [yeah, that's not really the "No" part of NaNoWriMo, I know...] Writing Month.

I read something interesting last night. It said Flash Fiction has more to do with stand up comedy than it does poetry or longer stories. I wonder if reading books on joke telling would help us.

Does anyone have a good prompt we could work on now? The only generic idea I came up with on my own was to just grab a random item, pretty much whatever I saw first, and write a quick story from the item's point of view. I was also going to draw it as well. I figured I could print out the story, where I've written it in a text box that places the writing in such a way, that I can draw a picture around it.

Maybe fanfic of well known fairy tales? This would also be good for illustrating, because it would be easy to find an illustrated children's book as a guide.

How about a story based on a color?

A story based on a certain type of fantasy creature? I have the cutest book on learning to draw "My Little Ponies" that could be adapted to drawing unicorns. How about a Santa Story or a Tooth Fairy story.

A story based on a certain food such a Twinkie or Coke.

A story based on a nostalgic toy, like a slinkie.

A story including a candle.

Wow, where is this coming from? I couldn't come up with any of this last night :-0
