This is a strange one. From anywhere in AW, the browser's Back to button doesn't work properly with IE 8 under XP. That's the left-pointing arrow at the top left.

It takes two clicks instead of one to navigate to the previous page. Prior to the first click, the yellow display window shown when the cursor hovers on the button says this:

http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/...a=0flash=11.2.202.235url=http://www.(Alt+left)

Click once and nothing happens except that the display changes to the url of the previous page. Click a second time, and the browser changes to the previous page.

This behavior is not in IE 7, Chrome, or Firefox. It does not occur on other websites, including those that use vBulletin. I cleared the browser's cache, and the behavior persists.

The same thing happens with the Backspace button.

I see the problem mentioned elsewhere on the net, but no real solutions.

The url suggests that google ads is part of the problem, for whatever that's worth. Or maybe flash.

This problem started recently.

Does anyone else here see this behavior? Or know what causes it?

Other vbulletin installations have had similar problems with IE8 - I remember other boards complaining about it a few months ago.

This wasn't the one I mis-remember, but it sounds similar:

http://forums.anandtech.com/archive/index.php/t-2240302.html

They mentioned "It's a problem with an iframe used by Federated Media. beacon.lijit.com"

No idea if that is helpful or misleading.

Mac has been trying a different ad format in the footer. I've let her know about this thread.

It takes two clicks instead of one to navigate to the previous page.

Yesterday it was taking me three clicks to go back. I finally just started clicking on the menus directly instead of trying to use the back button.

I had this happen the other day but I'm pretty sure I was either on Chrome or Firefox (don't remember which computer I used so I can't be exact...)

The current versions of IE (both 8 and 9) have a problem with iframes.

It's not just on AW, or just vBulletin. It's iframes with javascript.

Guess what pretty much all ads use?

iframes with javascript.

The basic problem is that the parser in IE flails around and gets stuck in a loop in parsing when it hits an iframe.

It doesn't happen with all iframes, but there are a handful of variables that trigger the problem. I can see it happen with about 9 out of 10 instances.

I don't usually say this to users, (your platform your choice) but in this case, get a better browser.

Use IE for your bank or whatever, if you have to, but there are a number of other and better alternatives now.
