I noticed they're still trying to play the numbers game in order to influence writers into believing that PA is reputable. Wait 'til they discover the real backgrounds of some of PA's key people. At any rate, this might prove to be PA's real undoing since it may get the word around even faster to new writers about what to beware of.

Especially once they realize they can't control who's saying what or remove the tweets.

I was thinking the same thing, Cyia. Anyone can say anything and they have no control, no cornfield. Though I'm sure they will block anyone who makes undesirable tweets.

Gee, they might have to hire someone just to monitor all the tweets in order to block anyone who appears to be dangerous.

PA's recent twitter reveals: "120+ new followers. welcome to our twitter home. btw, PA will soon move to new headquarters with more space."

Sounds cult-like, doesn't it? Also, I wonder what that means in relation to their recent sales?

Lost the lease, did they?

Okay, on the question of quoting PA Tweets:

I'd say, quoting Tweets from the Honchos and InfoCenter would be okay, but I'd be very careful about Tweets from the workers or the authors. If they're relevant, and sanitized so that we don't embarrass anyone (other than the Stooges, that is), I'm cool with it.

A couple of recent PA tweets of note:

@PublishAmerica said:
forty-one new followers. hello to y'all. special twitter offer is already generating sales. $3.99 per book. great deal.

It's worth noting that this is the first Tweet even mentioning this offer. They'd only made three other Tweets before this.

ETA: A later post confirms the Twitter offer came to their customers via email.

@PublishAmerica said:
a bookstore in NY just called to order 207 books.

Bookstore buyers, how often would your store buy hundreds of copies of a single book? And for an unknown author?

Is there a link to find those posts for those of us who aren't familiar with twitter?

More likely what they really meant was "a NY Author just ordered 207 books".

They get confused by calling themselves a "traditional publisher" and say "bookstore....oh yeah, right, that's the real publishers...we meant to say Author...yeah that's right, that's who we sell to."

Here's the email PA sent about Twitter. Oh Geez:

Dear Author:

Twitter, anyone?

Follow PublishAmerica at http://twitter.com/PublishAmerica, and receive regular tweets (= updates) on what's going on here.

We'll spill behind the scenes info, tell you the latest about other authors, talk about bestsellers, share friendly gossip, and the best: we will let you in on very special sales offers, with very, very deep discount coupons that only Twitter followers may use.

Here's the first one:

Click on our Twitter page to become a follower, then call us at 301 695 1707 between 9-5 EST, mention coupon code "Twitter", and receive 5 copies of your book for only $3.99 each. Most titles qualify. Offer ends tomorrow night.

Don't know what Twitter is? Here's a 4-minute how-to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0xbjIE8cPM&NR=1. Most of the 45 million Twitter users (64 percent) are between the ages of 25-54, and an additional 20 percent are 55 or older!

Alright then, 'till we tweet again!

I thought this tweet from PA was interesting:
225+ followers to date, all of whom would be interested to know that PA is hiring 15 more staff to keep up with growth.

They're already being spammed. A PA author has posted at least 10-15 times that they only received $2.00 in royalties after being with PA for a year.

Just saw this on a PA tweet:

It's a beautiful morning in Maryland. Waiting for more authors to join this fun Twitter experiment!

So, anyone taking bets on how long the "experiment" will last? I wonder how many "happy, dammit!" PA authors will make posts.

One PA author posted:

PUBLISHAMERICA, I forgive you but I'll see you in court.
