Hello fellow writers. Like all of you on this forum, I am also a Publish America author/victim. I published my book MIGHTLY FINE REMEMBERING, a collection of poetry and lyrics with them in 2006, and was duped into paying them more than I'll probably ever make on the book, so that I could have copies to sell on my own. Despite giving several away, I've made more on my own selling my book, than PA ever will. I told myself at first that poetry was just a hard sell (which it is) but after finding this forum here, I know how much of a nightmare we're all going through, and I now know that I'm not alone. I definitely would like to get out of my contract, but may have to wait it out. I'm only half way through, but I'll NEVER give them any more money. Thanks for listening.

Welcome J.W. Lee!:welcome:

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with PublishAmerica and hope you are continuing to write. I also have a contract with them (** mistake **) and can't wait 'til six more years have gone by (although I'm hoping to get my rights back sooner). You are not alone.

Check out the other areas of Absolute Write, too! There are wonderful folks here and tons of good information.

If you've not bought books from them in awhile, you might write and ask to have your contract terminated for lack of sales.

Don't go into details, just state you're not making sales and ask for termination.

Be aware that Miranda (aka the Infomonster) lurks on this board and will probably look up your name. She may think you're a troublemaker just for coming here.

If you ask a moderator, you can probably have your name changed for the time being.

Welcome JW! I, too, went through the nightmare. I recently received my rights back. Putting that all behind me and moving forward. There's a range of emotions that go along with the awakening to the PA dupe. You are not alone, we've all felt it. This is a wonderful place to learn, perfect your craft, and find support/assistance. Glad you found us!

PublishAmerica gave me the rights back to my book simply BECAUSE they saw me posting here. lol. Before I had even asked them for it, they had removed my book from their website, and was in the process of dropping me. YAY for that. lol, Welcome and I hope you are able to get your rights back from the biggest joke of a publisher(printer)

Thanks to all for the kind words and advice. I may try to first see what I can do to get out of the contract, and if that won't work, I may go to the moderator and change my screen name here for a bit. Again, many thanks!

A dark, evil place.
You might want to change your name here first, then work on that contract thing! ;)

J.W. to change your name here, contact an admin. If you can't find one, leave a message here and someone will direct you.

And welcome.
