Sometimes PA Can Be The Publisher Of Choice . . .

I regularly follow the blogs of the several literary agents. Just the thing to go with my morning tea and, who knows, I just might learn something!

Yesterday, in the very cool and informative Bookends blog (which all newbies should read), Jessica discusses someone who is cyber-query-stalking literary agents.

His message is evidently that "the querying will continue until [title] is published." Sounds kind of ominous . . . Read the comments, many other agents chime in with the same tale.

Several people have suggested that the agents start sending the writer to PA. I think it sounds like a perfect fit!

Another agent responds:

I've gotten it, too. Three different email addresses. When you email to ask him to stop? He writes back, "The queries will continue until ELIZABETH is published."

I'm thinking about pointing him at PublishAmerica.

I would too! Sounds like a crazy person. Dude, maybe you should consider what might be not working and do some rewrites, not shoot yourself in the foot.

No, you read the email headers, look for the ISP's IP address (it's there, even in gmail, hotmail and yahoo emails - t's possible to hide, but idiots like this don't have the first clue) and forward them to abuse@<his isp>.com complaining it's spam. It's obvious to me editors have a hard time in this business, especially if they allow queries by email. An editor should only have to reject something ONCE. Resending the same thing is spam.

It could well be exacerbated if/when that person finds out what PA is really like.

http://arcaedia.livejournal.com/I have a online friend who is an agent named Jennifer Jackson, and I read her blog. She is always getting emails from people demanding representation and stating they will keep begging and sending queries until it is done......scary??

The threats to continue to harass, and the fact that the same individual has contacted multiple agents suggests to me that the person has violated section 501 of the Federal Communications Decency Act--and I would mention that to the ISPs.
