To me, it sounds like something that has an obvious answer but just to be sure...

What exactly are the Do's and Dont's of a writer's resume? If possible, can anyone provide an example resume.

Thank you,

Also a question about Craig's List....should we trust people on Craig's List if they're looking for a showrunner/writer's?

I don't think screenwriters use resumes; thats what spec scripts are for. I've heard at least one working screenwriter say no one has ever asked about his education.

You might want to mention anything you've sold in query letters.

If you're asked to supply a resume for whatever reason, it should be just about writing. What projects you've worked on, in what capacity, names, dates etc. They don't want to know about 'real' jobs so don't put anything like that in unless it's directly relevant to whatever you're telling them about eg, you wrote a medical drama and you were a doctor for eight years.

I have a writers resume and it lists contact details/agent & then productions, awards/grants etc and a section for work in development/optioned but not produced etc. Details are brief, where the work was produced by what company, date and director. Nothing at all about normal jobs or education but a small section on relevant training/writers schemes etc as well as residencies. I use it all the time as a summary of work and experience to date.

BUMP I'm usually asked to provide a resume when calling about reader / analysis jobs - naturally as a backup to my coverage sample(s). They want to know what school you went to, what movies you served as unpaid slave er, intern on etc.
Applying to submit a spec is a different story - it's truly a dream entry level job :D but not really.
