Hi everyone,

I am a newbie who just started writing fiction though I have been a reader for long as I can remember!
For me, it's very difficult to finish what I start and my main objective to join this writing group is to make new friends and get motivation to finish and share my stories.

I read too many writing books without writing anything (on retrospect I should've just stuck with writing instead) and am filled with trepidation when I put pen on page as I remember advice regarding structures, plot, dialogue etc., and I feel that my writing sucks and am unable to continue further.
Hoping to cleanse my mind off all this :) and keep writing to finish my first draft.

Thanks for having me here!

Welcome! :welcome:

If you're looking for community you've come to the right place. I'm a new writer as well, and I've learned so much since joining AW. What's your preferred genre?

:welcome:, Anomander. You've got lots of valuable knowledge from reading, so keep it up and apply what you know to the keyboard.

Good luck finishing your latest work-in-progress. :greenie

Hello and Welcome! Newbie over here too. I know what you mean about writing books. I bought a couple when I started my current WIP. They are definitely great resources for improving your writing, but they can get in your head. My problem is I often use them to procrastinate the actual writing...

Good luck with your draft!

Hello and welcome to AW! :welcome:
Liking the Malazan reference there :)
Just remember that all that writing advice and all those 'rules' are ultimately secondary to how you want to write your book. Writers disregard some of those 'rules' all the time. If you are feeling like your writing sucks, have you thought about trying your hand at writing some short scenes or even short stories and having people critique your writing and give feedback to help you improve it? After 50 posts the Share Your Work board allows you to ask for feedback.
