Good Morning, Cantina!!

I do things like that. Mine run more along the lines of "He looked at the woman and admired her{SAY SOMETHING NICE ABOUT HER LEGS} before approaching her and...." Then I just have to remember to go back through and replace all the bracketed notes.

I do this. It helps when I have an idea of what I want but need MOAR Cleverer Wordz.

Wholey crap, y'all! I just got an acceptance on a short story for an anthology.

Congrats!!

Poll: who in here are outliners and who are pantsers? Give reasons why.

I have tried various pantsing and outlining techniques over time. I'm an organized pantser, it seems. I'm totally pantsing my current WIP, but I'm grouping it by scene in Scrivener so that when it's revising time, it will be so much easier. If I overthink my WIP, then it flops.

I think I may have found the technique that will get my first completed WIP EVAH!

~~

Related, I did the math on my UF crime story. In order to complete it this year AND before NaNo 2012, I have to write 300 words a day on the story. That's completely doable and makes it seem easy even.

This morning I was able to crank out my words evening with the kids running around. Yay!!

There's something about the early morning rush to work. Today I got stuck behind an incredibly slow walking woman, pottering along in the snow in her heels. And I mean, REALLY slow. I've seen funeral processions that moved faster than she was going.

Ugh, those are the worst! Can't stand when slow walkers walk in the middle of the sidewalk/street/mall/monorail/etc. The only time it's worse is when there are three or more moseying abreast of one another at a snail's pace.

Make a hole, people!

Gah, yes! The Team Slow Walkers are the worst! We often get those on campus, four or five teenage boys who're Too Cool to walk fast and so block the whole pathway. EVEN THOUGH IT'S A REALLY WIDE PATH. And the lovey couples walking arm in arm, taking up the whole pavement, strolling along.

GET OUT OF THE WAY, PEOPLE! SOME OF US HAVE PLACES TO GET TO!

Jetpack? you're just not bloodthirsty enough, sweet girl.

Cattle prods. Horseman's pikes. Flamethrowers. Anti-personnel ordnance.

You know: assert yourself.

Speaking in defense of those who need to slow walk sometimes. As someone with an occasional dodgy hip that takes my walking speed down to snails pace or slower, I will say only this. Age will catch up with you all, so make the most of your speed, and please don't push, I go down easy these days.

Streets are perilous here this morning - the roads are fine but us poor pedestrians have to fend for ourselves!
Or in my case 'slide' for myself. Mighty slippy out there.

Good news - my obnoxious neighbours are moving out this week. Yay!!!!:banana:

Now, should I help himself bottle his homemade beer or do some wordage? Tough choice.

Don't fall, Ali. But I find myself among the ranks of the slow and stumbly nowadays, too. Luckily, I have my Zimmer frame fitted out with Cyberpunk-type weaponry and one small pony-nuke; push past me at your own risk! :D

helping bottle beer? Meh. Helping drink beer? Completely different situation; words can come later!

Genius!

You know, I suddenly realise that there's a whole new meaning to the word 'terminator', perhaps I need to actually think about this with a sort of Ben-Hur frame of reference. Hmm, if Orcs designed Zimmer frames...

Thank you for expanding my horizons. Sounds of thinking...

Oh well, drinking comes with bottling generally speaking. Words later. I can do that.

Woohoo! Also, congrats on the low WPD (words per day. not sure if that's a thing here...) for the coming year to get your WIP done. :D I've been seriously pondering Scrivener. How are you finding it? There're just so many tools out there, and I'm not sure how well any of them help. You're probably right and it's gotta be a combination of techniques for me, too.

Jetpack? you're just not bloodthirsty enough, sweet girl.

And here I was thinking, 'Cool! Jetpack! I hope she designs one that won't catch my big ol' bum on fire...' :D

I can't do jetpacks; I'm a-feared of heights. Besides, nothing brightens up the morning commute like a little target practice! ;)

Good Morning Friends!

I have risen from the dead. Not 100% yet, but much better than before.

So I'm wondering if I'm a bad person or just a writer. This morning I read this really sad news story about a guy who blew up his house killing himself and his two young sons. All of this had to do with his wife who's been missing for two years and he's the prime suspect. So as I read this story one part of my brain was very sad but the other part was turning it over in my mind and figuring out how to put this whole tragic story into a one hour crime show. (I'll admit I've been watching Bones reruns all weekend)

So, does this make me a bad person, just a writer, or both? :)

How's Monday going so far?

Now, if you'd have wished him dead then I would personally say that makes you a bad person. However, the guy happened to die anyway, it's just that you took it from one part of your brain to another. Nothing wrong with that.

My Monday includes lots of beer, obnoxious neighbour removal, interesting slidey stuff on the way to the shops and finishing some wordage, oh, and knitting and tea. I think it would be hard to improve on, feel free to pass it around

I like it. I'm probably not using it near to its full potential, but since I'm pretty much pantsing it anyway, I figure most of those extras will come in handy when I reach the revising stage. As will the ability to move scenes around and see the big picture because they are on notecards.

I do like writing in it though. I like the wordcount/target featrues.

I, too, enjoy me some Scrivener. In the overview you can colour code the different sections - I do it by POV character, so I can see if they're all getting roughly equal time and I'm moving between them consistently.

Age will catch up with you all, so make the most of your speed, and please don't push, I go down easy these days.
To be clear, my main issue with slow walkers isn't the old or limping. It's the young, apparently perfectly spry and healthy, who nevertheless choose to meander along at the slowest possible pace for no good reason.

*gets out cattle prod*

I'm actually not very assertive in real life. In fact I'm pretty conflict-averse, although I'm getting better at it. I used to be a complete doormat.

Meh. Just a writer. That's your writing brain figuring out plot structure.

I do it all the time... This morning I caught myself narrating my own walk to work in the 3rd person...

I need a driver too, I can't drive.

I can't drive either :D

Afternoon folks. Busy day is busy. I seem to have lots of random work tasks to do and they're just eating up time without me even realising it.

Whut up?

Good morning!

Today is *my* two-year AW-versary :D

Aren't y'all super happy to have me? :hooray:

Wooo! Happy versery. We are pleased to share the Cantina with u.

Good morning cantinas :Sun:

Weird dreams and good things happening in the cantina. Nice.

I'll spare you the weather report - feel free to make up your own, it'll probably be more interesting.

I finally realised where I was going wrong in my own story yesterday while I was writing a new AtCT (yes, another one, you have been warned). Humour, or if you prefer humor. I have no laughs in my own story. No wonder it's boring and I don't want to write it. So after todays slide to the shops, I shall insert laughs, and see what happens - sounds painful actually.

I have tea.

Do ittt.

Yes, yes, I figured as much really. Part of me is now looking at this from a Zen point of view. I think it's trying to be obtuse.

So how's your day?

My main issue is with the people walking slow is when they take up the whole lane and leave no room for anyone to get around them. You know you're slow. Get outta the way, so people can pass.

Kind of like those people that park their cart in the middle of the supermarket aisle while retreiving something from the shelves, completely blocking anyone from passing in either direction. Or those people that are pushing their groceries out to the parking lot and walking up the middle of the lanes there for no reason other than they are too lazy to get out of the way.

You know, those kind of people. :D

Also, I may have PMS.

So how's your day?
Tiring! But I got some of my big work projects done so not feeling too bad about things.

Does not compute.
Why not?

Also, if you'd ever seen me cross the road, you'd feel relieved that I'm not allowed behind the wheel of a car. :D

My absolute worst are the Slow Meanderers. Not content to be slow, they must be slow IN A ZIG-ZAG PATTERN that leaves them weaving wildly from one side of the pavement to the next. It makes it nearly impossible to get passed them.

Should we stop ranting about pedestrians now?

Afternoon folks. Nearly home-time here for me. Looking forward to putting my feet up!

Hey, if I'm allowed to drive *that*, I'm your girl. Which supermahket shall we go to today, Ma'am? ;)

Even if they came in handy during a rewrite, it might save time. Hmmmmm.

Oooh, colour coding is nice. I like colour coded things. Shiny!
