I was such a good girl, until I went to college. The I went on a 4-year adventure. I 'experimented' with illegal substances. It was fun. Opened the doors of perception. Still got good grades. Didn't do it much after college. It's been years since. I'm so boring, now.

What's the meanest thing you've ever done to a waiter/waitress/server, why'd you do it and, if you left a tip, how much was it (for that incident)?
You know, I'm very nice to waitstaff (being one for so long does that to you.) But there was a time... I was eating at this Italian place in State College and I found a rivet in my eggplant. A rivet! It probably fell off some kitchen utensil, but I bit into it and it hurt. When I told the waitress, she laughed at me. So, I told her off and made her cry. I felt like an ass. Her manager comped my meal and gave me a gift card for the next time. I think she fired the girl  But I left a 15% tip. I always leave 20%. I'm a softie.

T/D?

What's your own favorite piece of writing?
As I read this, I take it you mean something I wrote, so I'll go with that.

I have no 'children' in this regard, but four stories do stick out. One was on the dangers of Airmen using Ecstacy. One was about the "Wild Weasel" mission in Germany. And another was about the Air Force mission in Iceland. There's one other about an Air Force base, Rhein-Main, in Germany, that closed, that also turned out well. All those still resonate with me as OK writing.

ETA: Actually, JUST remembering, if I HAD to pick one, then it would the piece I write about Iceland turning an old American radar facility into a drug rehab center. And you can read that here.

Sara, take 30 minutes before you go to sleep tonight and write down 10 ways YOU feel new writers could improve their writing (as tips, hints, etc.). From YOU. No one else. Post them before you fall asleep or tomorrow in one of the writing threads. Just say something like, "These are things that helped me." Then, post the link here to let us know you're done and so that we may go learn.

I'll be back later folks.

You always make me write when I take a dare! Okay. I'll do it. Fine. Sheesh.

Anyone else? T/D?

I usually only ask the questions then sneak out. So I guess it's time for me to bite the bullet.

Truth.

Ok, SG - What's your most embarrassing moment as a mother?
Hmm, as a mother?
Well I don't know if this is the MOST embarrassing, but it is up there. (I'm sure I'll think of a more embarrassing moment after I post this.)

I was walking through the grocery store, my daughter, about five or six at the time was still small enough to sit in the front of the shopping cart. So as I push, she is actually facing me. Out of the blue, she yells out, "MY MOM'S MARRIED!"
"What did you do that for?" I asked her.
She pointed her finger and said, " 'Cuz, that guy is looking at your butt!"
I turned around to see a man blush and scurry away. The worst part is, I'm thinking the poor guy was just probably trying to read what I had on my shirt, but my hair is long and was hiding some of it.

Ok, NEXT!

If you've already been asked this, just let me know and I'll come up with another one.

When was the last time you cried and why?

lfraser, describe your finest moment as a writer so far; and your not-so-finest moment.

Mmm.

I would say that my finest moment as a writer was hitting "send" to post a short story on a critique forum.

My not-so-finest moment was about an hour ago, when, as I was chopping up the vegetables for dinner, it came to me that somewhere along the line after 350 pages and through the endless procrastination and obsessive editing and yakking and plotting and thinking about my WIP, I forgot what it was about, or maybe never knew.

Hence my presence here. Looking to absorb some writerly essense from AW.

Ok, anyone -- truth or dare?

O_O Don't scare me like that!

Or, wait. Was that the truth?

Yes... I'm totally sure. (Only in a really unsure way...)
