After my first novel was published many years ago, I received a forwarded envelope from the publisher. It was my very first fan mail!
I had visions of unparalleled admiration and gushing platitudes!
Maybe from a groupie!
Ah, no.
It was from an attorney. In my story, one character enters the aircraft through a jetway. The attorney made it very clear that it’s a proper name and should be capitalized. Jetway.
However, he was generous enough to note that it was probably an innocent error, but warned me not to make the same mistake again.
So much for adoring fans.
To this day, when I get a little cocky, wife says one word: “Jetway.”
It’s enough to bring me down to earth.

Okay, probably not a trend any of you should follow, I just got lucky.
