Holy moley. That's horrible. I cringe in sympathy.

That's terrible. And--what a shocker--those flipflops were Made in China.

Alex, now refusing to buy products made in China, if possible.

Pssst, Unique -- tell your friend to left justify her story. It's really hard to read the way it is.

I love that the manager turned his head so that he could see her injury. What a jackass. I'm reading the whole saga and it's amazing that they can't just pull the shoes and admit that there's a problem with at least a batch of them.

Mr. Maryn has done extensive research in products liability law. (Go ahead, ask him about exploding soft drink bottles.) He's so going to enjoy this link...

Maryn, with yet another reason never to shop at WalMart

All women who wear made-in-China thong underdrawers should immediately check their bikini hidout. As a public service, Robeiae and I will do detailed checks for anyone seeking professional opinions.

I love the pic of the dog ;) At least she's still keeping a sense of humor.

I HATE WAL*MART. Like Maryn said, one more reason not to go there...

Thank you so much for posting, Unique. I have a hard enough time buying prepackaged food there. I will never buy clothes or shoes or even paper supplies from Walmart again.

Unique, I read your tale twice, but I don't see a diagnosis anywhere. Has anyone afflicted had a diagnosis made?

The marks on your feet look very much like acid burns. The bad news there is that acid burns scar horribly. I have many scars from sulfuric acid from working gasoline tankers.

I hope it is something else easier to deal with.

Her poor, poor feet! Those pictures were horrible! Thanks for the info. I wear flip flops constantly.

:shudders:

Fortunately, my cheap flip flops all have come from Old Navy. No burns yet.

I resolve to never wear any item of apparel that I can identify as having come from China. Or feed my pets any petfood made there. Or buy my kids toys made there. Ack!

Oh my, that's terrible. I am appalled that those shoes are still on the shelf. It seems like there should be a consumer agency that they can be reported to.

Good luck with that! I tried it once, lasted only a day. Almost EVERYTHING is made there!

That's horrible...but what made me stop and wonder was, when they made her feet tingle, why did she keep wearing them? I would have stopped at the first sign of tingle. Shoes should not tingle.

I don't know, Joe. (Those aren't my feet) I just saw this at a friend's place and figured I'd warn ya'll. I don't wear flip flops because I can't stand things between my toes, either.

But if I could and I did that might have happened to me, too. Creepy, eh?

At least one MD seems to have posted about this very case elsewhere...

I'm an MD.

That's not a chemical burn. That's allergic contact dermatitis. Of course it's not gonna go away even after 11 days, because you keep wearing them. Stop putting them on, and it'll go away.

Consult a dermatologist and he/she will say the same thing.
American Academy of Dermatology: [www.aad.org]

Quote:
"What Allergic Contact Dermatitis Looks Like:

In initial (acute) severe cases such as poison ivy, the skin gets red, itchy, swollen, and develops tiny blisters, which may break and leave crusts and scales. The skin becomes thick, red, and scaly with long-term (chronic) exposure to an allergen. Later the skin may darken and become leathery and cracked."

Gives a whole new edge to these boots were made for walking...only doesn't quite work unless you can go the distance and visualize flip flops as boots. Only, then...it still doesn't make much sense. But I did think of the song whilst viewing the poor feet?
