So, what's everyone doing tonight?

I think I'm staying home 'cause I'm still sick, and it would be hypocritical for me to complain about people bringing germs to Chrismas, then doing the same myself on New Year's Eve! But I may stop off to bring my brother his birthday present (his birthday's today).

Any special wishes for 2006? Resolutions?

I won't call it an official resolution, but one of my goals for the new year is to get better about getting back to people. I have literally not listened to my answering machine messages since before Christmas (I hate the phone), and still have hundreds and hundreds of e-mails and PMs piled up, and still have wedding thank yous to send from last year. I don't procrastinate in other areas of my life, but this one I do. Once I see that there are a lot of messages on my machine, I dread it, so I think, "I'll handle this later." Then next time I look, there are twice as many messages and I REALLY don't want to deal with it! Then I just wind up feeling guilty all the time.

So that's my deal. You?

That's a good one, Jenna. I need to do that too.

  • I'm going to try to call my daughter and grandkids more.
  • I'm going to try to stop procrastinating about submitting my work. I really want to find an agent this year.
  • I'm going to try not to let things upset me as much as I usually do. I'm calling this one my snit-fit reduction resolution.
  • I want to meet some of you AWers in the flesh. But I'm broke, so you'll have to come here.
  • I especially want the opportunity to thank you in person, Jenna, for all you've done for me.

Oh, and I'm staying home too with Mrs. Chunky. We'll probably fall asleep before midnight.

Party this evening, then go clubbing -- yeah, am going to be a bad boy tonight. This after, went to the casino and won $260!

Happy New Year.

Going across the street to neighbors at 10:30 p.m.- they're three single men - why they don't ever go out, I don't know. they always invite several people in the neighborhood, we play charades, eat sweets, play jenga or yatze and then at midnight, stand on the porch (I make a balloon drop) and count down (and they have this huge alarm thing that is eerie and is loud)
Sounds a little lame, but it's fun and we always laugh a lot when we're there.

Here are my New Year's resolutions:

1. To cause more trouble in 2006.
2. To procrastinate.
3. To reach post #10,000 like my predecessor.
4. To use some of these cool new smilies and drive William bonkers.
5. To NOT make certain resolutions I'll never be able to keep.
6. To make people laugh every day.
7. To say thank you to Jenna for giving us this web site. THANK YOU!
8. To write more. (yes, I have to keep this one!!)
9. To meet some AWers in 2006 some way, some how.
10.To make more $$$$ in 2006. (and since I didn't make much in 2005, it shouldn't be too hard)

O! I have some good ones
  • finish a novel, I have two started and look for an editor
  • get a new car
  • start dating
  • be less serious
  • be more spontaneous
  • do something wild with my art group (a totally off the wall show)
  • do a Chapbook and publish it
  • be less co-dependant with my son (tough one)
  • find myself and do good things for me
  • be in better shape

Tonight - staying home with the wife and son. He will definitely be asleep before midnight, but hopefully she won't (though she's not feeling well so perhaps we'll celebrate "midnight" with the NYC ball drop instead).

For 2006 - I'm planning on playing "devil's advocate" less on these boards. :)

Instead, I'm going to devote more time toward finishing another novel.

Happy New Years everyone - and may 2006 find you all healthy, happy, and successful with your personal and professional goals.

Activity: Home with nuclear family.

Resolution: (I actually have one this year! because I tend to act on resolutions when I think of them I rarely have a real one conveniently for new year - but this time I do!)

To spend months alternately between devoting my energies to promoting my own projects and to promoting stories of strength.... starting with my own projects because they've been set to one side in favour of SOS for near three months now. Of course I'll do a bit of both all the time, but I'm talking about core focus here.

Goal: Get an agent (a good one)

Stretch goal: Get a publishing contract (a good one)

This is the first year that I've had these goals or any expectation that I might manage them within the year... but if I have to hold those goals for the next ten years so be it!

Happy New Year's Eve, AWers, and Happiness throughout the Year to come to you all and all your loved ones.

We stay home with the kids on New Year's Eve. We have a tradition of watching "Cinderella" -- the newish one with Brandy and Jason Alexander, really pretty movie, and we have it right there in the drawer -- but this year my kids are saying that's "boring" and instead they want to watch "The Parent Trap" with Haley Mills, which I'd have to go out and search the video rental places for. (Most movies are too scary/emotional for my kids to tolerate. We have a very limited selection.)

On New Year's Day we have a long-standing tradition with another family. They come over (or we go there) and everyone eats some black-eyed peas (brings good luck!), and we each write down our predictions for the new year. And then we read our predictions from the past year. We're generally about 70% wrong, but it's fun.

Resolution-wise, I have a goal of shutting up about what my kids eat. My new motto is "don't like it? don't eat it. better luck next meal." That's always been my basic philosophy, but I found I've gotten into something of a tangle with my youngest's picky tendencies. I want to get out of the equation and just let it be between her and her plate.

I think I'll make some weather predictions this year.

Happy ' 06 Everyone.

This will be the first time in many years that I'll stay home to bring in the New Year. Honestly, I don't feel much like partying. I think I'll get in some writing.

My new year's resolution (intentions): I really want to move toward doing my writing and studio (recording and music production) full-time. Honestly my creative side has been neglected for quite some time. I crave to spend time creating on my own account and not mentally be filled with corporate work and travel. Everything with work is good and has been. It's just that there are times that I wish I could spend more time being me.

I'd like to wish everyone a safe and blessed as well as FUN New Year.

My activity? Home by myself watching the ball drop. Hubby has to work, stepson has to work, kid'll be in bed. Just me, the TV and probably the computer.

I don't make resolutions, so I don't have one here. I just eat cabbage (if I can) on New Years Day and hope for the best.

This is the first New Year's Eve that I haven't had to work in several years. Tomorrow is my wife's birthday (our anniversary was the 29th) so we are having a combined birthday/New Year's party at our house. My son is staying with his grandparents.

2005 was a bad year for reasons beyond my control, but nevertheless, here are my 2006 resolutions.

1. Try to spend more time with my family
2. Finish my novel.
3. If number two is met, then find a publisher.
4. Clear this open arson case that I've had since this time last year.
(probably won't happen, it is too difficult a case)
5. Take a long vacation this summer to help meet resolution 1.
6. Exercise more.
7. And if I do all of the above and still need to do something, then I will quit
smoking.
8. Dodge any future hurricanes!

Happy New Year to all of you and may those of you feeling ill find your health soon restored.

I have some good New Year news to share. I have two cats and quite possibly a third who will be coming to live in my home on Tuesday Jan 3rd. My children do not yet know this. I want to surprise them when they get home from school that day.

2006, is going to be an exceptional year!
Sincerely,
Nicole

My New Years activities are the same every year and I wouldn't change them for anything. Hanging out with Hubby, who wasn't actually supposed to be home for New Years Eve this year, and my boys. I make tond of disgustingly fattening food and we watch movies and stuff till the ball drop time.

This year I made:

Cincinnati Chili
Mini sausages in BBQ sauce
Ro-Tel dip w/ chips
Mozzarella sticks
Chilled shrimp w/ cocktail sauce
Crescent rolls with Gouda cheese baked into the center
and hubby's special request, Bagel Bites

I also picked up sliced ham & turkey from Honeybaked Ham for sandwiches.

Resolutions.....hmmm. I never keep them.

Brady, you're welcome to come over and bring the missus, too! Thing is, we do NOT do the table thing. It's plates on our laps while being complete slugs on the couch. The goal of the evening is to become as horizontal as possible without dropping your plate of food. That, and coaxing someone into getting off their rump to go get you more food. Unfortunately, it's usually me who does that!

Blessings and good fortune to all in the coming New Year.

I don't make New Year's resolutions per say. For me, addressing the concept of how I want to improve my life over the span of an entire year is overwhelming. So instead of making New Year's resolutions, I strive to make each "new day" better than the last.

As for my plans for the evening, I'm staying home this year with hubby and kids.
A late night, seafood buffet, and sparkling rose will be the highlight of our evening.

Cheers

That is exactly the same goal that I have tonight too, though not as it relates to food!

Incidently, we actually ate at our table last night. I cannot remember the last time we actually sat down at the table to eat. We usually eat on the couch or in the bed with TV trays.

I have just written an 'open letter' of sorts and wondering if, in a spurt of sentimentality, I should post it. There's nothing embarrassing in it, I'm just trying to work out whether or not it would be attention seeking.

Open letter? I mean ambitious list of resolutions! :D I may regret it when I come to the Hogmanay '06 life-audit!

What a sweet evening. I remember one time my husband and I went out for New Years (our little one was four years old) and it was 11:30 and we both looked at each other and both said "Let's go home" and we rushed to pick up our little one from the sitter's and hurried home to celebrate - just the three of us! It was the best New Years ever. And we've never gone out again. At least, not just the two of us. From then on, we always stayed with our children.

by the way, so great to see you again Paprika! I've missed you!!
