Hi everyone! Newbie here looking for help!

Here's my situation...

My MC is on an freighter in the middle of the Atlantic and is in desperate need of using his laptop to access the internet. The MC is on the run from multiple law enforcement agencies, he is former military and CIA and is computer savvy (while I am not). The freighter is old and has no Wi-Fi but the laptop and other supplies were given to him by a buddy who is also ex-military/ex-CIA and is tech savvy.

What would he need in order to access the 'net through his laptop and how reliable would the access be?

Also, is there any way the buddy could trace his location when he does? (I haven't decided if I'll need this to happen but I'd like to know my options either way.)

If his friend gave him the computer, did his friend also give him a satellite phone? If not, he might be able to tap into the ships communication center, provided its not an old communications system.

If these options are not available, he's fucked...

Thanks for the quick reply!

Yes, his friend gave him a sat phone. How would he use it with the computer?
