For some reason, I got to thinking about all-time most famous and memorable movie dialogue lines tonight, and started compiling a list of my faves. So I'll throw it out there, for others to add to. Rule is, can't be too esoteric or culty, known only to an elitist audience, has to be famous enough to be generally known to most movie aficionados. These came to mind, in no particular rank order:

1. "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." -- Clark Gable, in Gone With the Wind.

2. "Badges? We don't got to show you no stinking badges." -- the faux-Federale in Treasure of the Sierra Madre. (I might have the exact syntax of this line slightly wrong; it's been a while since I saw it.)

3. "All you gotta do, Chief, is raise your hand, and we can all watch the World Series." -- Jack Nicholson, in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

4. "You slut." -- Bill Murray, in Tootsie.

5. "I coulda been a contender. I coulda been somebody." -- Marlon Brando, in On the Waterfront.

6. "Think you used enough dynamite there, Butch?" -- Robert Redford, in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

7. "Fuck it, Dude, let's go bowling." -- John Goodman, in The Big Lebowski.

8. "Play it again, Sam." -- Humphrey Bogart, in Casablanca.

9. "I ain't got time to bleed." -- Jesse Ventura, in Predator.

10. "Snakes. Why'd it have to be snakes?" -- Harrison Ford, in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

That's my opening ten. Add to it.

For some reason, one of the phrases I frequently get stuck in my head is from 'she's the man' -Vinnie jones saying "here in Ilyria, we don't discriminate, based.on.gender!" but that's not famous famous

how about "luke, I am your father" from star wars?

or "no harm ever came from opening a book" in the mummy (lol)

I know "show me the money" in Toby Maguire is also another famous one

And "no body puts baby in a corner" from dirty dancing...

those are the only ones I can think of right now!

Isn't that one of those that never really happened? Like "Beam me up, Scotty".
how about "luke, I am your father" from star wars?
"These aren't the droids you're looking for."
Or, of course; "May the Force be with you."

"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a packet of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses." Elwood, in the Blues Brothers.

"Guns. Lots of guns." - Neo, in The Matrix.

8. "Play it again, Sam." -- Humphrey Bogart, in Casablanca.

Ahem -- That's not a line in the movie.

"Play it, Sam. Play As Time Goes By."

But that film's got a ton of quoteables -

"Here's lookin' at you, kid.
"We'll always have Paris."
"I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."

Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore - Wizard of Oz
You can't fight in here. This is the War Room! - Dr. Strangelove
I see dead people - the 6th sense
Houston, we have a problem. - Apollo 13
They're he-ere - Poltergeist
We're gonna need a bigger boat - Jaws
I love the smell of Napalm in the morning - Apocalypse Now
There's no crying in baseball - A League of their own.
I'm afraid I can't do that, Dave. - 2001: A Space Odyssey
I don't drink... wine - Dracula/Silence of the Lambs
I'm having an old friend for dinner - Silence of the Lambs

And, my absolute favorite quotable movie ever:

Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die! - The Princess Bride.
Death cannot stop true love. It can only slow it down a little - TPB
Inconceivable! - TPB
Bye-bye boys. Have fun stormin' the castle! - TPB
As.. you... wish... - TPB
(And now I must stop or I'll quote the whole movie :D )

Nooooo! I was gonna say that one. :D Instead, I'll settle for this:

"You have fallen for one of the classic blunders. The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less known, is this: Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!"

Inconceivable! - TPB

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

8. "Play it again, Sam." -- Humphrey Bogart, in Casablanca.

FYI, Bogart never said this exact line in Casablanca. Just like Holmes never said "Elementary, my dear Watson" in any of the stories by Doyle. Everyone thinks they did, but they didn't.

Good excuse to watch the movie again. ;)
