How do I tell if the rep is positive or negative? I've got a few with no or ambiguous comments on them, and I've got so much that I can't tell from the total anymore.

Yes, I see that. I'm interested in which individual comments are positive and negative, or is there no way to tell?

i dunno. I know I sometimes disagree with a person and tell them with a reppie, but I never send a negative reppie.

As far as I know there's no way to tell the difference between positive and negative reps. It's an option that just happened to come with the software, it wasn't deliberately activated so members could play rep point wars. I just read the messages, I don't keep track of my points total.

There is a way to tell, but are you sure you want to know? ;)

If you go to the left of the reputation comment line, you'll see a small light blue box, all the way to the left. Right click inside the box and select "Properties" at the bottom of the drop-down menu. Highlight the first line (Location), and you'll see at the end of the line whether it's a positive or negative rep point.

My last one looks like this: pos.gif.

If yours says neg.gif, well you're in good company. :)

If you go to your post that someone repped you on, and click on the middle icon (scale) on your post, it will say ‘somewhat positive' for a positive rep. I’m assuming it would say ‘somewhat negative’ if you received a negative rep.

Don’t even think about giving me a neg rep, SK.

Heh, someone gave me my one and only negative rep point after one measly post in a Take It Outside thread. And that was the end of my adventures in TIO. :D

I get LOLs, ROFLs, big grin smilies and happy faces. I'll assume those are all positive?

I didn't know that. I always assumed they were positive. I guess I'll leave it that way. :D

I've given a couple of neg reps but never recieved them.

I have to be really, really ticked off to give a neg. At least two of the ones I've given were to trolls who were later banned. I think I've only given one to a regular member but the post was personal and totally uncalled for. I'm not even sure now who it was! :)

What was worse was that I didn't know it was a neg rep at first - so I gave a positive one back, thinking the snarky comment was sarcastic. Then I found out it was a neg. I thought about neg repping back, just to take away the positive, then decided it soooo wasn't worth it.

:D

SilverKing's method doesn't seem to work for all browsers. (I'm on Firefox and up to date.) The properties drop-down box doesn't include any .gif information. But clicking on the scale icon of the post that was repped works as promised.

I also use the latest version of Firefox. When you click on the light blue box to the left of the rep comment and select Properties, highlight the entire Location line, and the last part of the line will reveal if the rep is pos or neg.

That's pretty much repeating what I said upthread, but try it again and see if it works. You know I'd never steer you wrong. :)
