I’m searching for a writing partner to help me rework/rewrite my 90-page horror script.

I’m not just looking for someone to read and comment on it. I want someone to jump in, 50-50, and help me come up with new and better ideas and help write parts of it. I know it can be hard to get passionate about someone else’s work, but I have to at least take the chance. We can turn it around and make it our own.

At the end of this post you’ll find a logline and synopsis so you can get an idea of what we’re dealing with here.

Here’s what I’m not looking for:

1.) An internet love affair. Hehe.
2.) Someone who believes their every idea and suggestion is God-given and beyond contestation. We wouldn’t get along very well.
3.) An inexperienced screenwriter just starting out. I’ve already studied for two years now and can’t wait for someone to understand what the craft requires before they can help me out. This doesn’t mean I’m looking for someone with a credit, though (I don’t have one, either). Just that you’ve spent time reading scripts and have, ideally, written one of your own already.
4.) An individual who is easily offended by foul language, gore, and mild sexual situations.

I’d also need you to agree to this: that upon completion of the script, if it’s been given good reviews and is ready, you are willing to use my open door into the industry first and foremost. Should it get passed on there, then I’m willing to submit elsewhere.

I’m not a difficult person to work with, but I wanted to lay it all out on the line right here and now so that my time and yours isn’t wasted.

All right, the script. What I’m looking to do is tone down the gore quite a bit. I’ve been told on a few occasions that it is just too much, one person even stated it got ridiculous. I also want to lay off on the language, but not entirely. To take out the gore scenes would require major rewrites and a lethal dose of creativity, as the whole story was based on these forced games. With that said, though, I’m not looking to go PG-13 on this. I detest watered down horror movies.

Logline:

Six high school students must compete against each other in a twisted game of survival as punishment for trespassing in the hideaway of a serial killer's offspring, each eager to follow in Dad's footsteps.

Synopsis:

To graduate, Kaden, an antisocial outcast, must complete a human study project for his psychology class. He enlists the help of his obnoxious best friend, Benni, and together they gather a diverse group of students and take them to an old abandoned house.
When every door and window locks down, the teens blame Kaden, thinking it’s part of his project. Kaden tries to convince them that they’re in serious danger, but the teens brush him off as a harmless freak desperate to graduate.
After their mysterious hosts throw them into the first competition, a morbid “Fear Factor” type game, the teens go from believing Kaden’s an annoying outcast to believing he’s a complete psychopath.
They form alliances and compete for their lives, while struggling to find a way out of the house.

All right, that’s about it. If you’re interested after all that, then feel free to PM me to discuss it further or to get my email address.

Have a good one,

Jamie

PS: I’m using Final Draft v. 7, so it would be best if a future partner had it, too. Actually, I don’t know how it would work any other way since I’m looking to share writing duties.
