He will certainly be missed. I had the honor of meeting him many years ago at a writer's conference I attended in Massachusetts. He was a dear, sweet man.

This has been announced in the Obituary newsgroup on sff.net.

Damn. I had gotten used to seeing his stories in every issue of Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. They won't be the same without him.

Me too! I just read "A Scandal in Montreal" the other day.

That's very sad, I hope his family finds comfort in all the wonderful stories he has left for us.

Behind you!
Although he lives in my community, I've never had the pleasure of meeting Ed Hoch, and now I never will. Sniff!

As someone who's really better at short stories than novels, I found hope and encouragement in Hoch's success as a writer of short fiction. I do confess, though, that his passing leaves room for some of my fiction in future editions of EQ. I hope.

RIP, Mr. Hoch.

Oh no, I just saw this post and I am stunned! Although I'm mainly a non-fiction writer, I popped over here because I love short mysteries ala "Ellery Queen" mag, and Edward Hoch's Nick Velvet stories were my favorites! I am so sorry to hear that he has passed on. He was a wonderful, creative writer and I will miss him.
