On the first page of a short story, where does the first paragraph begin, two spaces below the page number at the top or do you begin it in the middle of the page? I've never written short fiction so I am unsure, the story is only 5100 words. Any help w ould be appreciated! Thanx!!

Ok. :)

Put your page numbers at the top right-hand corner, and in front of each page number, you should put: lastname, "title"

Then, all your information, name, addy, email, wordcount, etc should be in a block at the top on the left side.

In the middle of the page, centered, goes your title; directly underneath it, your byline.

And then I usually hit the enter key twice before starting the first paragraph.

Like so:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
lastname, "title" 1
Name
Addy
Email Phone
Web address (if you have one)

"Title"
By Firstname Lastname

It was a dark and stormy night, and the waves crashed around the old man's lighthouse on the point. He felt much fear.

Usually, margins are set at 1" all around, text is double-spaced TNR 12pt. Depending on where you submit it, however, the formatting might be a little different, so I'd re-read the guidelines very carefully before hitting the 'send' button.

Does that help?
