Sorry, gang. The news here in L.A. got it wrong. By the time I found out the truth, I was out and about and nowhere near a computer to make the correction.

The offer was absurdly low. They don't want to make a deal yet. They save money by continuing the strike and thereby not paying anyone over Christmas.
They offered a $250 flat fee for a year's worth of unlimited downloads. Since downloads are replacing reruns, the compensation effectively declines from $20,000.00 to $250.00
Unless they decide to forgo upfronts entirely, and change the structure of the industry, they have to make a deal by February at the latest. Otherwise, they throw away a billion dollars in revenue, and there's no way their corporate overlords would let them get away with that.
At that point, do Verrone and Young try to punish the studios for their game playing, or take the best deal they can get and bring everyone back to work?

It's times like these that make me want to do things to understand why writers are so important to good story-telling.
For instance, watching Cowboy Bebop, and Battlestar Galactica on DVD. Ooh, and watching Harlan Ellison's Star Trek episode versus some of the others.

Sorry, haven't been keeping up with the news in any great detail, being outside the US, and preoccupied with infernal administrivia and preparing a proposal for a documentary festival I am attending very shortly.
HOWEVER...the offer of $250 flat fee sounds akin to the paltry sums offered freelance print journalists for the printing of their articles on the publishers' websites-for those who can get it.Relatively speaking, the sum paid to these journalists amounts to mere pennies.

Not one of us? Hardly. He's sold his first novel to a major publishing house, and I'm delighted for him.
Casting stones against his viewing habits and implying he's a troll happily loses all impact when the stone caster appears to be wholly oblivious of basic grammar and capitalization rules.
