Preacher in Pale Rider, but I'm looking for something more like a John Wayne meets Alastair Moody. As soon as I come up with a name I can post my serial in Silly Fridays.

Rip Torn in Dodgeball. "If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball."

Tommy Lee Jones character in Men in Black.

Joel Grey's character in Remo Williams.

Dennis Chan's character in Kickboxer. I think that's the one where Van Damm is mentored and one scene the mentor ties a steak to Van Damm and van damm asks what that's for, and Chan replies, "It'll help you run faster." "How will a steak make me run faster?" Van Damm asks just as the dogs are released.

How about Mortimer's 'Prophet' in A Few Dollars More?
Was that Lee Van Cleef's character?

Eh! sorry! I change of language in middle of a post, is that I was talking with two people on MSN while I was talking, so I got confused. But I guess you have an idea who is Obi Wan Kenobi

There's a name I haven't heard in a while!
Anyhoo, so far the character's names are
Grimironie (heroine, no last name yet)
Tyson Crispy (her grizzeled old war-horse of a partner)
Otto Van Farmer (Grimironie's famous and late grandfather)
Handy Manly (minor character who works with Grimironie)

Star Wars translates to The War of the Galaxies?

That is how was translated. Star Trek is called "Voyage to the Stars", Nightmare Before Christmas is called Jack's Weird World, The Shawshank Redemption as Dreams of Escape, One Flew Over The Cooco's Nest as Trapped Without Way Out and Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb as Red Telephone? We fly to Moscow

Cranky-check
Old-no comment
Mentor-uh, not so much (does parent count?)

Partner-yep, got me one of those.

I'm even in some old home movies.

Any more questions? :D

For my money, I kind of like Danny Glover/Mel Gibson in the Lethal Weapon movies.

ETA: Dang it, I somehow missed III's post.

What maestrowork says; Grumpy Old Men! Talk about cranky characters.

Big Joe, played by Telly Savalas in Kelly's Heroes. v/s Clint Eastwood's character Kelly
Moriarty, played by Gavin MacLeod from the same movie. v/s Donald Sutherland's character Oddball

Glenn Close as Alicia Clark in The Paper. v/s Michael Keaton's character Henry Hackett

John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn in Rooster Cogburn. v/s Katherine Hepburn's character Eula.

The movie character Walter Burns, as played by first Adolphe Menjou, then Cary Grant, then Walter Matthau and in a later adaptation by Burt Reynolds, but then called Sullivan. The movie has been called "The Front Page". "His Girl Friday", "The Front Page" again, and last "Switching Channels". 'Walter Burns' is about as cranky anyone can get! v/s the whole world in general and the employees in particular.
