WDC (Writing.com)--I've been a member there since 2001 and it has its good sides and bad sides...but I'm afraid I shan't get into them publicly as people from the site can see these message boards.

It's not a bad site for posting writing (and getting feedback IF you're lucky), but if you're really in it for publication, I don't think WDC will do you much good. Since I'm not seeking publication, but rather to just display my work, it serves me more use, obviously. It's not vanity publishing, but it's more a display site than anything. There is an extensive review system based on star ratings, and people (particularly newbies) can ask for reviews, though oftentimes these will be very general or short.
Reviewing on the site used to be a lot more active but not so much anymore, I'm afraid. I think one has to really be friends with a lot of people on the site to obtain the most use from it, and I don't really know anybody there. In order to stand out you have to be really social and aggressive, which I'm not. There's the writing display side of the site (which is mostly what I do), and there's the community side (which I'm not really into), and you have to be into both to make the site most useful. There's so much stuff there (much of it, yes, subpar) that it's hard to be noticed unless you really try. It might not be worth the effort. It depends.
And I feel I've probably said too much.
