Guidelines for an overseas writer?

Hi there,

After completing my first objectively-wonderful book, I Googled the web for American publishers and found out I probably need an agent, being far away (not American) and all that.

I noticed ST Literary Agency and had a short email correspondence with them. Then I found the criticism in ezboard. I suppose the same could happen with any of my searches.

Question: My book is a somewhat-humorous book about religions (mainly Judaism, Christianity and Islam), and promotes atheism and humanism. Being a "foreigner" (from an American point of view) makes it difficult for me to actually contact many others, unless by email. Is there any specific recommendation (e.g., specific publishers or agents) I should approach?

Thanks!

Start with the folks who are members of this organization:

Stay well away from ST.

Do not, under any circumstances, pay money to an agent before the book is sold. Money flows toward the writer.

I don't think that being outside of America doesn't makes much difference except for the extra price of stamps and phone calls. Good luck getting an agent and/or publisher.
