Is this website legit?

I can never tell anymore. I keep getting thrown to this page a lot when researching agents. Maybe I'm just used to really nice looking websites, because this one gives me a strange feeling.

Would any agent listed on here be legit? There are certain big name ones that don't have their own websites and so I keep getting thrown to these. They list the agents name and their address but that's it. There's nothing about query submission specifics and everything on the page seems to be scattered.

What do you think?

Writers and Artists Yearbook is certainly a well-respected publication. Whether ALL of the agents there are legit is open to interpretation. I don't think they vet them (check out their credentials) though. It's more a telephone directory of agents than a Better Business Bureau recommendation of the practices OF the agent, if you know what I mean.

As with all lists anywhere on the web--research, research, research.

This is the listing of US agents from The Writers and Artists Yearbook, a UK guide for writers that is regarded over here as the most authorative guidebook on the market. I trust the UK agent guide so I see no reason to distrust the US guide.

As with any agent guide, not all the agents listed are reputable (for instance, they list Austin Wahl, who charges fees). Don't assume their inclusion means they are--do further research on any you choose to query (before you query them).

It's always a good idea to use more than one agent guide, and to expand your search by other means, because it's a good possibility that not every guide will list every agent appropriate for your manuscript
