I've finally gotten to Best American Short Stories 2006 on my to-read bookcase. Out of curiosity, I started looking at how many stories One Story had managed to get in the book. They had two in the collection, plus another 5 in the honorable mention listing. So over a third of what they published in 2005 got into BASS. Suddenly I feel better about the story I sent them getting rejected, although I still think that they made a mistake (The Paris Review, however, not only concurred with One Story, but did so in half the time it took them to reject the last story I sent them).

Oh and one other thing. If you don't subscribe to One Story you should consider doing so. It's a great little publication. A new short story in your mailbox every three weeks.

It always lessens the pain of rejection to know you got rejected by a top market!

Of course, nothing feels as good as an acceptance, so keep on submitting!!!!!

Yes, keep on submitting! I agree, One Story is a gem. I love having one or two issues in my purse to read in case I'm stuck in a line.
