I read about this in Script Magazine and while they stayed fairly true to the original they did tweak it here and there for greater impact and added a second act to make a better bridge between the first and second half of the film.

I caught a trailer on TV the other night, not surprisingly it looked quite different from what I remembered of the 1957 original. Heck, it was in color for starters.

Reckon I'll mosey on down to the movin' pitcher theater when it breezes into town.

I'm so torn on this one.

On the one hand, um, they have an Englishman and an Australian playing Americans.

On the other hand, we had them in the Old West, so so what?

On the other hand, they both do killer accents, so I won't remember they're English and Aussie while watching.

On the other hand, I can't bring myself to pay money to see He Who Throws Phones at Clerks.

On the other hand, Christian Bale is HOT.

On the other hand, He Who Throws is great in Westerns (points to The Quick and the Dead).

On the other hand, it's a Western, I gotta go represent.

On the other hand, I have to convice the rest of the family unit to represent as well.

Someone on the Forum go see this and tell me which hand to go for!

It does look intriguing. There's a trailer (and pictures) for it here, here and also here

Ok, I'm kidding, they all point to the same place.

But it does seem like it's worth at least a look (especially since my Cinema tickets are free) even though I haven't seen the original.

There's also a billboard for it down the road, not that you'd be interested in that...

Although I must confess I'm a little dissapointed that the first big-budget western in a while is a remake.

An excellent western short story by one of the best writers alive--Elmore Leonard--has been made into a film with top-notch talent. The film has received near-unanimous rave reviews.

It isn't a "remake" of a film. It's a new screenplay of Leonard's story.

What exactly is the question? Whether to see the film at all? Or whether to see it now or wait for the DVD?

If you have doubts about seeing the film: What in the world do you want in a western film anyway?

I saw it yesterday...definitely an excellent film, worth seeing on the big screen.

It's much expansive than the 1957 original.

My husband just got back from three weeks out of town, and I figured "hey, I'll go see a Russell Crowe movie and then we'll both get lucky" but it wasn't meant to be. The Dreaded Strep Throat has returned and I'm not really fit for human companionship.

I really do want to see this movie though.

Movies cost money. Movies for more than one person cost more money. For a family of three or higher, it's cheaper to buy the DVD, and much cheaper to rent it. Speaking for me, I have doubts about every movie coming out, because I've seen plenty of awesome trailers wher the movie stinks, and vice versa.

Just because a movie has a great pedigree doesn't mean it'll BE great.

And what I want in a Western film is what I want in any movie -- a good story, told well, that I'll enjoy.

So, eagerly waiting for your review. How was it? What did or didn't you like about it? Better on big screen or wait for DVD because of whatever reasons?

And, it IS a remake. It may be a new script, but it's still a remake of an older movie. I have nothing against remakes, some of my favorite movies have been remakes (Ocean's 11 and The Manchurian Candidate leap to mind). But with all remakes comes the question of is it as good as or equally good in its own way as the original? So, again, eagerly awating your and other's reviews.

Really good!

This movie was really good! Russell Crowe and Christian Bale are excellent in it. I'm ready to see it again.

Has there been much added, compared to the original? That's about the only thing I hate about remakes is that sometimes they add extra things such as senseless violence (as oppossed to senseful violence), bits of T&A, etc, etc.

We see more of Ben Wade's outlaw activities as well as an expanded second act featuring the journey to Bisbee, when Wade briefly escapes.

The sequence of reaching the 3:10 train is far more violent and fast-moving, but the heart of the story, of the first film version remains completely intact.

It is Very good.
Having not seen the original (yet), I can't compare the two. Although I'm rather glad I hadn't seen the orignal first, to keep the ending fresh.

I'd implore everyone who's mildly interested to Go and See it.

Fantastic. I want to see it again. On the surface, it sounds simple: One guy has to get another guy onto a train. But there are so many layers and complexities... I couldn't take my eyes off the screen.
