I've picked up my character's quirk!

I had an erratic character in mind to use for a story. One of her quirks is to save ALL of her empty peanut butter jars in her kitchen cabinet. I (stupidly) tried this myself to see what it was like, how it made me feel, any responses I got, etc., but NOW I'M ADDICTED TO IT!!! AAAAHHHHH!!!

The worst part? I have an even STRONGER addiction to peanut butter. *sigh* I can't win. :(

I can actually understand that because when I was doing theatre on a regular basis I started acting like my characters.:rollin

There is some small comfort in this. You can at least become a recluse and have the neighbors peep at you.

I wonder if I married the character in your story.

What IS it about those empty peanut butter jars, anyway?? Hmm. But, HConn, that's a scary thought; my character has another, somewhat bizarre quirk. :eek

At least I don't have to worry about getting addicted to THAT one. I have a little more sanity. ;)

Golly, I didn't know I had some kind of exotic quirk. Thanks for the info. Next time I write a personal ad (when Hell freezes over) I'll be sure to include this detail.

I buy Maranatha organic peanut butter. I feed it to the writers when the come here, with celery or whatever. They say it helps them write better.

The jars have a wide mouth, they're glass. Handy.

Peanut butter jars are not the only ones I save. Heck, I save all kinds of jars. You never know when you need 'em! But all of my PB jars are plastic.

I went through a plastic peanut butter jar period. The first few I used to store nuts and bolts. The next three held audio wiring do-dads like cable ends and adaptors for my home recording studio.

I got into this frame of mind like, "Wow! These jars are like God's gift to pack rats!" And started saving them without assigning uses. I was anticipating this great future need to store tiny junk. I envisioned a PB-jar of paper clips, and another of thumb-tacs, etc, etc. But I never filled the jars.

I had about ten of them empty and waiting for new purpose when I finally moved. I threw them out then and never looked back (until now).

Peanut butter jars are handy, but how do you clean them? What a mess. I save coffee cans, myself. Much easier.

Kraft peanut butter in Canada was making glass jars shaped like bears. Not sure if they are still around, but the lids came with a coin slot so you could use them like a bank after the peanut butter is done.

We have mama bear, papa bear, granny bear, and baby bear (he's a smaller size jar). Then there's the hockey bear, with a plastic hockey bear picture shrinkwrapped around the glass.

Several of the jars are now stuffed full of pennies.

They make great doorstops/bookends.

Where was it hiding, Maestro? When my kids were little they used to hide the crusts under the couch. The cats thought they made great toys.

Oh, and peanut butter jars are handy for storing left overs and making yogurt. The trick is to get them out of the cabinet and use them.

Although, in 30 years or so you could probably make a fortune selling your collection of vintage peanut butter jars on Ebay. You could use the labels as wallpaper. Then refer to rooms by brand. The Jif room, the Skippy room, the Peter Pan room. And if you're lucky, you could end up on an HGTV show about extreme collectors. The Smithsonian would call you with all their peanut butter history questions. You could be known as the Peanut Butter Lady. You'd be famous!

Right then. I'm off to clean out my cabinets.

LOL, Jen!! I really wonder what a room covered with Jif labels would look like.

And, maestro, I'm not much of a PB & J eater. I ate those sandwiches as a kid, but nowadays, I'm a peanut butter purist. (Now say that ten times real fast!!) The funny thing is, my daughter doesn't like PB & J sandwiches, either. We ALL eat just the peanut butter, minus the jelly. (I've tried different flavors, different breads. No go.) BUT the fruit flavored peanut butter was a big hit with me when it came out. Not the "Goober" stuff. I don't think they sell it anymore but I recall living off that stuff for 3 days straight!

Interestingly enough, I came across this in an article I just finished reading: "Peanut butter provides protein that helps build and repair body tissue."

And I remember those jars with the coin slots in the lid!
