Writing for television

The Doctor

Hey People. This is my first post. I've got, what I think is a great idea for a sci-fi show. I'm just wondering a few things, such as how do I get my script read by the right people? What do the networks like to see, ie a script for each episode? Or the first scrip plus enough ideas for the rest of the season?
If anyone could help me, i'd be forever grateful

Welcome to the forum.

Not surprisingly this question has been asked before. :) If you select the Search this Forum link at the top of the forum window, and search for tv pilots you'll find a bunch of slightly older threads that might have the info you're looking for.

Based on responses I've read previously, a great pilot episode and one-paragraph synopses of at least six more episodes might be worth aiming for.

Also based on responses I've read previously, with TV it's who you know that matters, the insider connections.

TV script contests might be a way to break in. F'instance, check out the contest link on www.moviebytes.com -- their calendar is good for keeping track of approaching contest deadlines: http://www.moviebytes.com/calendar.cfm

Sorry if that's a bit vague. Good luck with making your idea into something sellable.

Thanks for your help guys. My friend said I should "sell my soul" and send in idea's for trashy day time soaps, just to make a name for myself
