Hello! I'm 18 years old and I'm new to this forum (duh). I just finished my first year of college and I'm planning on doing a lot of writing this summer. My main interest are screenwriting for tv shows (preferrably dramas) and I'm a big scifi/fantasy fan and I have this idea for this epic trilogy too.
When I was in high school, I had written for my school newspaper for two years and I was in "Writers" club. I also did a lot of writing (either comedy or drama) involving my friends and they would read it and be very supportive. And now that I'm in college, I've decided on majoring in English.
When it comes to my background, I moved from Maryland to Blacksburg, Virginia when I was 4 years old (so I've pretty much lived their my entire life) because my father had gotten an Engineering position at Virginia Tech. So as you could imagine, the past few weeks havent been that fun... I had decided not to go to Tech when I was in high school and the university I go to is four hours away. But when the shootings happened, the majority of the people I know were okay, except for one girl (who had graduated with me), had unforunately passed away during her french class and I had to leave that weekend to go to her funeral and to be with friends and family.
It was also really unreal because the drama that I was working on (before the shootings happened), were loosely based off my experiences in Blacksburg and focused on a group of friends who really wanted to get out of this college town. And even though I have only written about five pages of the pilot episode, I had also actually planned out two seasons of it (I like to think far ahead when I'm writing) and one storyline I was writing down involved a school shooting. So right now, I'm really focusing on just writing this screenplay and not thinking too far ahead.
But to get away from the depressing stuff... my current favorite tv shows include: Lost, Heroes, Battlestar Galactica, 24, The Office, ER, Veronica Mars, SVU, Brothers & Sisters, and 30 Rock. Another show I enjoy is Alias, but my favorite series of all time would have to be "the practice" (seasons 1-7 only, season 8 ruined the series; James Spader is hilarious, but the show just wasnt the same).
Favorite movies would have to be: Children Of Men, Gattaca, Casino Royale, Guess Who's Coming To Dinner, Boondock Saints, Friday Night Lights, King Kong, Batman Begins, The Departed (Infernal Affairs (the Chinese movie the Departed is based off of, is also amazing), and X-Men 2. And some of my favorite indie films include Mean Creek, American Gun, and Imaginary Heroes.
That's really about it, I accidentally found this site looking on google for a writing contest; wish I had found it sooner!
