What gives?

Why are we moved to the "pop culture" section?

Is our writing in comics less valid that the other disciplines?

Shouldn't screenplays be moved here as well then?

You realise "pop culture" is short for popular culture, don't you? It's recognising that comics are popular...

I'm actually trying to get you guys more action and visibility. :)

You're not being dumped at all. This is just as much a writing board as it's ever been--it just seemed a better fit here, in a room of its own, than buried in a sub forum called "and all the rest."

Exactly right. It's merely a reorganization, and should not be taken as a banishment. If anything, we hope that having this section will draw more attention to these areas.

The Water Cooler is first and foremost a writer's board. Therefore it's a given that every forum here is intended to be about writing, whether specific discussion of craft like the grammar forum, or discussions of the world around us that informs our writing.

Take the politics and current events forum, for example. Yes, most of the threads in there are debates on specific issues, but does that not provide fodder for your writing? Many times, I have read something in there that has helped me make my WIP a little deeper. And there's nothing stopping a writer from starting a thread in there to talk about the ins and outs of writing op-ed pieces about the government, or the ethical issues faced by journalists who follow celebrities around.

So dig in and contribute. If there's a specific craft-related discussion you'd like to see in there -- why not just start it?

Have fun! :)

Presto.

You're a writing studio room. This is where you were before. You were buried in a subforum called "All the Rest" before too, and I'll certainly put that back as well, if this is still offensive.

I really appreciate this Mac. In return I will try and put some effort into getting some more activity in here. There really is a lack of good comic-writing related discussion area on the internet.

Much better than being lumped in an 'and all the others' category like it used to be.

Oh...

OK then.

:D

First thing in the morning, combined with years of, "You write WHAT?" and "Do comics HAVE writers?" and "Why don't you write something REAL?" Rodney Dangerfield lives in the hearts of most comic writers. We can't get no respect!

The fact that we're now front and center was missed.

My apologies.

Good solution, Mac. I'm glad to see Comics and Graphic novels out on the main page to begin with, and putting it in the "writing studios" section should help foster serious discussion of this writing discipline.

Songs HAVE writers? People WRITE songs? Why don't they get a REAL job? :D

I wouldn't have complained if it'd been in the new pop culture section, but I quite like that it's here in the Writing STudios now too. Maybe someone will come read wordmonkey's and mine How to write comics thread... :)

That was kinda what i was meaning.

We're movin' on up!

Hey, there's a comic book forum!

Cool...

Ditto!

Although I am trying to write what you might call a hardbook 'novel,' I would love to move into the "graphic novel" environment. I grew up... (I would never do that exactly) I have read comics for a long time now, one of my latest being Frank Miller's '300', now that's how I want my stories to end up!

I am also currently reading and looking for more 'Red Star' comics.

You can't go wrong with '300'. I remember reading it when it first came out and it boggled my mind. My favorite work of his was always (if I recall) volume 3 of Sin City....but then 300.....man. Amazing.

Heh. I love comics, guys. I pencilled and inked underground local comics for a writer friend of mine, for years. I'm the last person to act like it's not real writing--or real art. :)

We figured you were just oppressing us some more.

Everyone, Mac can draw! Quick! Flood her with scripts and queries! She can be your artist! Remember what wordmonkey and I told you about how to get an artist! And if you can't buy the liquor yourself, get a friend to do it for you.

:D
