May I just say that the resurrected Moon Knight comics have got the coolest covers ever?

Man.

I love them! Whether it's the Moon Knight & Spider-Man, or the upcoming Moon Knight & Captain America...they're gorgeous. They're stunning.

I always thought that in the swirling cape dark look department, Moon Knight was cooler than Batman some days, and certainly cooler than Spawn (who got boring and angsty after the first few issues).

LOVE Moon Knight covers. The issues are pretty good too, but the covers, I'm nuts about.

They brought back Moon Knight? Cool.

Tell me if they ever do a MK/Dr Strange--that I would have to have.

Although how they get stretch lycra to actually go *into* muscle creases, I don't know. Even if it was ultra tight it would stretch across the gap. Maybe the just shave and paint?

I have never cared how super-heroes managed that. I assumed that they put the spandex on, and then carefully wedge it into every crevice.

I'd pay good money for MK/Dr. Strange. Actually, Dr. Strange has come back as a useful and interesting character too recently, instead of just being "The guy who shows up to explain these mysterious events" like they so often make him (House of M, anyone?)

I don't know who the cover artist is, I'm afraid.

Lol, Emily--my hubby is a big Dazzler fan--he and I thought of a really good pitch for a Dazzler story, too--and the last story I pitched to Marvel featured Dr. Strange pretty heavily. Because I think he's sex-ay.

I really like the new, more human Strange, Pete. My take on him was pretty cool, too, I think--more of the same, but with funny asides like how he can catch the popcorn in his mouth every time.

That one is still with one editor, and a different editor is looking at my newest pitch, but...

I didn;t realise he was back--that is going to cost me some money--I have a pretty full run of all the series so far. The early ones cost me a bucket.

The storyline in the new ones are very enjoyable, although I wish they had left it completely out of the "Civil War" stuff (honestly, it's gone from an event to an STD that's infecting all sorts of books). The artwork, if nothing else, is amazing. I mean, it blew the artwork "the ultimates" out of the water, and I was very impressed with that.

The Dazzler. My god, does that bring back memories. Although strangely enough, the memories they bring back are of Banshee's old green and yellow costume.

This is going to sound terribly newbie-ish, but....I didn't actually know you could send them scripts based on characters already out and about. Not while expecting any results. That's terrific, and it certainly gets my brain turning...

Spectre, for example, has the potential to be interesting again (in DC, obviously)

The story was actually an old, resurrected character, and Dr. Strange was just a featured player. They are looking for those--if you have a new idea for a "retired" character, send them a query.

I believe they're somewhat open to looking at stories for existing, in-use characters too, but it would probably be a harder sell.

I agree the old Strange could be rather cheesy. But I love the whole dark hair with white streak/naughty little goatee thing. He looks like my husband. (Seriously.) And I like the new Strange a lot.

The only thing I still can't stand with Strange is that when he flies, he's sitting cross-legged. I like the theory behind it, but it just looks cheesy. I remember it was used in a shot, in House of M. Everyone else is flying along. Iron Man is glinting in the sunlight, Ms. Marvel is just flying....

....and then there's Spider-Man, slinging webs when there aren't really any buildings that high, and there's Strange, looking like he's taking advantage of his flight-time to do some yoga.

Sheesh.

The last thing I need is another big thought to fill up my head, but now I'm going to have to go look for defunct Marvel characters...

I don't think I'd query standing Marvel characters. I mean, there's no way I could touch Daredevil. My god, I'd be afraid to try with the qualitiy he's been at. Captain America? Perish the thought. Spider-Man? Not when he's in Joe Straczynski's capable hands.

Hmmm, Pete thinks, what cheesy Marvel character can he dust off and Make Cool...?

I always dug Moon Knight because somehow, for a guy wearing all white and not having exactly the coolest name out there...he's awesome! He looks very cool and menacing, sometimes moreso than Batman. To say that I'm pleased with his return is to understate it.

That looks very much like Jim Lee art. Dunno who might have inked it, though. And I hadn't heard he was working for Marvel again, either--but I've been out of comics for a while.

They tried bringing him back with the Annihilation Mini-series event last year. Him and Super Skrull and some others. To say that it was lousy is to be too kind.

It's not Jim Lee, he's still with DC. He's struggling to manage a monthly installment of Batman, which is being written by Frank Miller. You'd think that that would be a dream team, except that it's unimaginably slow. Jim Lee's a great artist, but between him and Frank and their combined problems with deadlines...sheesh...

The interior art for Moon Knight is being done by David Finch. It's being written by (bestselling author) Charlie Huston.

....Hm. And after further digging, I've learned that the covers are being done by David Finch as well. Wow.

I finally found a decent-sized picture of MK#7's cover, which is the one that really wowed me.

The whole 90's image stable of guys had a serious influence on art. Rob Liefeld for the worse, unfortunately.

John Romita Jr was always my favorite on Frank Miller scripts.

John Romita Jr. did the Eternals mini-series recently with Neil Gaiman which, I'm depressed to say, I didn't enjoy.

I was really looking forward to it. After Neil's "1602" mini-series, I was giddy at the thought of a "Neil Gaiman does super-heroes in the here and now" sort of storyline. Somehow, it just fell way short for me.

Alas.

The one artist I don't miss in the slightest from the 90's guys is Todd McFarlane, who is sliding slowly into bankruptcy on account of being mostly a bastard.

Honestly, when the man started declaring bankruptcies, I cheered. He was a fair artist, a really crummy writer (honestly; it's terrible) and he did a few good issues of Spider Man. Which were badly written.

His company makes cool action figures. Then again, so does Hasbro.

I suppose most of the other cases I mentioned are fairly related.

The reason we got "1602" and "The Eternals" from Neil Gaiman recently was so that he could cover the legal expenses of smearing Todd McFarlane's worthless ass in court.

This is a good place to start.

Basically, when Eclipse Comics started to fold, back in the 90's, McFarlane very sneakily started trying to pull everyone's created content out from under them. He got some of it. Fortunately, Neil Gaiman was paying attention.

Searching for "Todd McFarlane" on Gaiman's site and following some of the journal entries that come up is a good way to spell it out.

When people started talking about McFarlane and his 'dealings' with the Eclipse bankruptcy, he said rudely in interviews that if they had a problem with him, then they'd see him in court.

Neil Gaiman did. Several times. Todd lost badly every time.

If he were a publisher, he'd be on P&E as "not recommended on a cold day in hell"

Moon Knight is one of Marvel's best books right now no question. It's sales are pretty high as well and the main reason is Finch's artwork. When I talk to friends and MK comes up the fact that the art is awesome always follows. Finch ...and Huston I believe...are almost done with their run on MK. We'll see what the next crew does for the book...
