Hi All!!

I can't tell you how happy I am to have found all of you! I could really use a reality check. I thank you in advance for your feedback.

My name is Leslie, 39 yo divorced mom of 1, just outside of Pittsburgh. The roller coaster of my life has landed me obsessed with wanting to write about what I've learned first hand, and through keen observation, of the effects we have as parents on our children's lives. I've begun, but writing at great length is somewhat difficult for me physically, as I live with horrible daily headaches. But I just can't get all the ideas to stop playing in my mind. I have such passion, I feel like I want to shout it from the rooftops...and at the bus stop! But the mom's I know aren't too open to constructive criticism face to face. So I want to put it into print.

So before I continue on my keyboard journey, is it even possible that someone with no experience might just get published?? I'd appreciate the feedback before I continue all the work. All through high school I wrote for pleasure (and for extra credit when I was naughty) and my mentor told me for years that I should write. I was almost an English major in college, but anatomy, biology and nursing stole my heart.

I may write just to get it out. Strong opinions and conviction and a stubborn Irish personality just may force me to finish.

So, here I am. Again, thanks for being here. You can not imagine how thrilled I am to have found you all!

Much love,
Leslie

I'd like to add that I do not plan on any expert input. This would be a common sense approach, strictly my opinions, presented one parent to another.

Nice to meet you, Leslie! Welcome :)
It's certainly possible to get published with no previous clips, we all start somewhere, right? :) Good luck to you!

Hi Leslie,

I just left the 'Burgh almost a year ago. Nice to see some more southwestern PA'ers here.

Every published writer was unpublished at some point in their career. Why shouldn't you have a shot?

:welcome:

This is a great place to learn and to have fun with fellow writers. Welcome aboard! :)

:welcome: Leslie and good luck with your writing
I hope you can also find something to help you with your headaches. That doesn't sound like much fun!

Hi, Leslie! Welcome to AW! I'm north of you, up here in Erie.

Yes, you can get published. It does happen. :)

Are you aware of Pennwriters? www.pennwriters.org. The annual conference is being held in Pittsburgh this year, so maybe you can come? It's always great fun to hang out with fellow writers. I'm pretty sure there's a local Pitts group, too, that has regular meetings. Check out the website. It's for all sorts of writers, from fiction to non-fiction, poets, article writers, novelists... a very inclusive organization. :)

Hi Leslie and welcome to AW! Of course it's possible to be published. Everybody who's now an experienced writer was inexperienced to begin with. Just keep working at it and it will come.

WOW! I can't get over all the Welcomes and encouragement! Thanks soo much to all of you! I suppose everyone does have to start somewhere!

It's great to know there are others close to me. And Susan, thanks for the info on pennwriters.org . I'll check it out.

I'm going to try to figure out where to turn next. Pamster, seems like a point is just what I need right now. Do I find an agent that may be interested?? I would think trying to contact a publisher directly may be a daunting task. Any point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I was reading that often an editor or someone may work along with the writer to help with the direction the book is taking. Or would it be best to just trudge along on my own?? Soo confused!

I hope every one of you has a wonderful day!
Smiles,
Leslie
