My book is already out, self-published. But I am looking for an agent that will not only promote it, but maybe keep up with me on my novels.

It is a sci-fi book, so I was wondering: can you guys point me towards the right agents?

Thanks a lot in advance,
Jose

What do you mean by "promote it" and "keep up with me on my novels?" Agents sell your book to publishers, deal with your contracts, and help make sure you get paid. They aren't publicists. Many are not interested in self- or vanity-published books at all, though that depends on the agent.

Look on agentquery.com for agents who represent science fiction. Double-check them on Preditors & Editors and in the Bewares forum on this board. Follow their submission instructions exactly to send them a query letter.

And above all, do not go with any agent who asks for money up front. "Money flows to the writer." --Yog's Law

Just reiterating what Deadly had to say. When books get publicity, and authors get book tours etc it is arranged by the publishing house's marketing team. NOT the author's agent. However if you want to get an agent to maybe send other of your work out there to be published, then that is totally cool. Follow Deadly's good advice, do some research and start sending out those letters!

Good luck!

EDITED TO ADD: If you really want publicity for your self published book you could hire a publicist, but they are extremely expensive and unless you have the money to spare, probably won't be worth the cost. I think some people here may have used publicists in the past, maybe they could chime in?

Thanks for your suggestions, I really appreciate them :). I will check that site and do what you said. Also, if anyone has experiences with publicists it would be good if they could tell me what it is like and whether it is wroth it or not.

Thanks again!
