. . . if you had a partial out to an agent and A) it's been a month after the stated response time and B) you read on Publishers Marketplace that they are no longer taking adult fiction? It isn't clear to me whether submissions are closed or the agency is only interested now in YA novels and the like. Said agent seems very nice and has responded within the agency timeline--both rejections and reqs. for fulls--to others with partials. BUT, this is info I gathered from the children's and YA crowd (I discovered this at an Agent Response times site, http://www.verlakay.com/boards/index.php?board=43.0 . Even though this isn't my field, the discussions on it can be useful).

I'm presuming that this is a rejection/dead duck in the water, but I'm not sure. What should I do?

At this point it wouldn't hurt to shoot them an email and ask--very politely--for an update. Worst case they'll say no(Which sucks but at least you'll know for sure)

Good luck to you! Hopefully you'll have some good news to give us soon :)

Here's hoping you get the closure you seek. Recently I sent out a couple of emails asking for updates on my novel and haven't heard a peep.

Now I'll have to wait awhile and send an email asking for an update on whether anyone has read my email asking for an update.

First of all was it a requested partial? If they say they are closed it usually means to new queries not requested ones. Do you know that they received your partial and who it went to? The month means that it was over December and traditionally that is a slow month. WM was closed from Dec 15 to Jan 2.
An email that has your title and REQUESTED MATERIAL in the subject line may be what you need to find out the status.
Good luck

I hope you have a load more queries out there while you are waiting for this one to be resolved

Yes, it was a requested partial sent via email and with a confirmed auto-response. The agent seems very, very pleasant, both through my impressions and that of others who have dealt with her.

I have had (and continue to have) a steady stream of queries out there in the mean time. I have two fulls out, too, but no requests for material in a couple of months. The handwriting is sort of on the wall for this novel anyway, I think.

Straws. I'm grasping, here. (Maybe I should be posting in Rejection and Dejection . . .).
