I began today with coffee, several smokes and an idea for another short story. But first I must check my mail and read a few threads here before getting down to work. After an hour or so, I found the need for a cocktail to help me put this story into perspective. And so I had made my first cocktail and let the story run away in my head.

After a few more cocktails, another round of chat with people and a witty reply or two, I was ready to tell my tale. I began in earnest as the first couple of paragraphs flowed quite easily. Then I took a break for a late breakfast of pork, eggs and toast. Now it's time for a nap before finishing this story.

I have this so far:

---

The Nervous Tick

His eyes bulged, terrified, from the pressure I placed on his spine. He gulped, I know he did -- although I couldn't be sure -- and then took a deep breath as I squeezed tightly. A droplet of blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.

He twitched again. I felt him.

The pain was obvious, as it was with the swelling on my neck, but I paid no attention. Night after night I felt it leaving in vein and retreat to its hiding spot behind my neck where I was unable to reach. My tortured arm did not allow me to reach much further than my right cheek, so I was not aware of the small tear of flesh in my neck until one morning when I prepared to shave.

I noticed for the first time the pimple, so I had thought at the moment, on my neck. I became alarmed. What was the cause of this affliction? I had not eaten poorly or indulged in exotic foods or drink, so why had this small mound of flesh begun to protrude from my neck. I am sure it was my diet, yet I remained faithful to the fruit of drink and meats that I've become so fond of while on holiday at the institution.

The morning shadow crept upon my room again, as each day since my return from the hospital, but this day I discovered the faintest hint of another sharing my bed. I had not felt the suckling before or during my slumber. I had taken the drink, quite frequently, and so my sleep was not disturbed by the sounds of a house that had shared a hundred years of pestilence.

---

So how goes your writing day? I will finish this story today and shelve it for editing and later submittal.

Cheers,

Spooky

Today, sadly, I spent at work. So the chapter I wrote was entitled "The SIP PBX Call Queuing Feature." Ah well, at least I wrote.

Yesterday, however, I went for a long walk in the woods behind my house and, upon my return, I cranked out 2 handwritten pages to add to the single-spaced page I've already written on my latest short story (my husband was downloading music onto his i-Pod so the computer was otherwise engaged). I'll transcribe my handwritten pages either tonight or tomorrow, time permitting. I'm excited about this story. I think it's a good one.

Like the story Spooks. You're a creepy chap, you know that? Did you mean to spell vein that way; is it intentionally ironic?

Oh, and I quit my job today. I hope this turns out to be a good decision. Feeling hopeful, yet apprehensive.

Happy writing!

I hope the job situation works out for you. Good for you and writing. I am going back to this short story later tonight or early in the morning.

Keep up the good writing!

My morning went badly, writing wise, so I went and had a bath and did some enjoyable reading. Then, I made some tea.

The tea helped. I got four pages of my comic book completed (probably about seven script pages, y'see) and I did about 2,000 words in one novel, 1,000 words in another novel, and around 2,000 words in one short story. Did 500 words in another short story, the first part in a mini-series of stories.

It would have been wiser for me to concentrate all that into one project, but such is life. It was as good day anyway.

It scares me that I know exactly what that is and am glad you were the one writing it and not me.

My work opuses are usually more firewall and process related. ;-) Congrats on quitting the job. ;-)

I have 6681 words on my nanowrimo novel. I'm spending too much time on it, I can feel my production supervisor getting ready to yell at me. I made several long posts on this forum and messaged the admin on another forum about spammers-- and one of the mods there scolded me mildly for posting rude epithets under spam postings. I drank way too much coffee. I played Dark Throne a little bit. I spent some time feeling guilty because I'm not helping out my alliance on DT like I promised to. *blush*

My friend messaged me to inform me about an upward trend in his grades. This is quite good, because his father recently threatened to cut off his internet if he didn't start doing better. (He's still failing two classes, but overall doing better.) He still hasn't figured out a way for us to be able to play Age of Empires in multiplayer mode. This is disappointing-- I spent hours downloading that stupid game.

My cat has been acting weird all day. This morning she broke my sugar bowl; just now she knocked some empty bottles off the counter. I know there are no mice in the house (unless they are in the basement) so I'm not sure why she's doin this. The wind is blowing very hard and it's quite cold outside, though this morning it was balmy but overcast. None of the dogs wants to go outside. It looks cool from in here, though: Huge gusts that are full of dirt and leaves, dust devils swirling down the street fifty feet in the air, all the trees tossing back and forth in an agonized way.

I made homemade biscuits and chicken fricasse. Damn, that was good! I still have some of the chicken left and I made extra biscuit mix in case I wanted more later (and I will). Charlie Cockatoo is addicted to my biscuits and corn bread. When I cook he makes so much racket it's quite aggravating.

This morning my best female friend called me and asked me if I would help her out with her 20-year-old daughter who just got out of jail. She and her boyfiend are going to be gone for a week and she doesn't want the kid at the house alone. (I totally don't blame her.) She wonders if I will let the girl stay at my house while they are gone. I told her that I would unless I could think of a compelling reason not to. (I can think of several reasons, actually, but I think I'll do it anyway; the kid doesn't drive or have any ID so if I get tired of having her around I can just trick her into going into Denver with me and then leave her there.)

Tea sounds good, now that I think about it. My mom gave me some "Constant Comment" for my birthday. It will help me fight the urge to go to the liquor store.

Tomorrow is my friend Jack's birthday. I've known him for about a year. He lives in Los Angeles.

Now I'm going to stop working on my story for awhile and do some transcribing.

I was at work by 6:45 AM today, so no writing 'til I got home. I'm home, have had dinner and have my coffee. All I'm planning to do is some polishing/editing as I've got a novel that a major publisher is looking at and an opportunity to give it a quick polish.

So that's my job for tonight.

I am making a commitment to sit down this weekend and write the short story that I've been bouncing around in my head for the last month or too. I'll certainly post anything that I can finish as soon as I can. Wish me luck!

You guys have time for writing during the week?!

I had a good week of writing last week, even if it only amounted to 2,000 words or so. I was able to shut myself out from the world and write. Not working so well for me this week, though.

I'm still trying to finish up the short story I mentioned above. I don't have much more to go, but took time off to study what I've written so far and how I want to finish it.

I need all the elements, like; does the protagonist change, etc. Practice...practice...practice...
