A kidnapping

Could someone direct me to a thread or a web site where I can find out the procedures for investigating a kidnapping? I've read lots of FBI and Dept of Justice info already. I think I know the basics, but I have a specific question and want to be sure it is something believable.

Thanks, Linda. I thought of contacting the nearest FBI office. However, I live in central Mexico. I think the nearest one is in Mexico City, which is about 5 hours away (and is not the safest place to visit).

Any other suggestions?

Thanks, jpserra! I also wondered if I would seem suspicious if I started asking questions, even if I introduced myself as a writer.

I found a web site that has some resources for crime writers (http://dvshop.ca/dvcafe/writing/crime.htm) as well as one directed at parents of a kidnapped child (http://ojjdp.ncjrs.org/pubs/childismissing/contents.html). The second one is a publication from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, a division of the Department of Justice and has some procedures the investigators use and some things the parents and family can do.

Maybe these sites will be helpful for other writers.
