Quick opinion question

All,

I am rewriting a screenplay for a friend. In the screenplay, a character has dreams which are also memories. I am going to check out some produced screenplays to see how they do it, but how would you all configure the slug?

INT. BUSINESS JET - DAY - AMBER'S DREAM/MEMORY

is an example of what I was thinking. Seems lear enough, especially if I've established the fact (with action and dialogue) that her dreams are functioning as repressed memories.

Thanks for any inputs?

You do it just like a flashback but with DREAM instead of FLASHBACK. Simple as that. Don't forget to do the end slug, I hate it when I forget. If she is asleep, obviously it's a dream, or you can do DAYDREAM or you can do FLASHBACK.

Just asking, is there a trigger that signals these dream memories? Such as,

Off Amber's glazed look--

or

Amber tosses and turns, troubled by dreams--

If the scenes are preceded by that kind of obvious transition then maybe there's no reason to clutter the scene headings?

Yeah, Dpat --

Her eyes flutter from REM before the dream sequence begins (after the initial dream, which is actually the opening scene).

The reason I'm trying to distinguish...

Is because later in the story, the dreams go away. She actually starts visualizing her memories when she returns to the place they happened (she sees the past while she's awake).

Get the Futurama script where Leela thinks Fry is dead but she is actually in a coma. I think that should cover it.

Once the dreams fade away and she is recalling it, it's called a flashback.

Ice, I wish it were that easy. The main character does have flashbacks, but she has been reincarnated, so I'm wondering if it will induce confusion if I just use the FLASHBACK. Plus, she's not technically flashing back, she's sees the past in present day. I don't want to transport the audience to the past, I want to show shadows of the past (from the main character's point of view) over the present day landscape. Essentially, she will see Ancient Greece while everyone else will see present day ruins.

PS -- what do the 3 lines in your signature refer to -- is that how far along you are on screenplays? Just curious.

Try reading The Mummy 2. The one chick was a reincarnation of the princess and had visions of those times back in the day.

The 3 lines are current WIP scripts. I have completed like 8 other features plus a short. I am only having the ones I am working on as they help remind me of what I'm working on. The poor wolf one has been pushed back several times due to other scripts coming first and eventually will be finished. I hope to finish at least one of those by the end of October so I can add in the one I am going to do for NaScriWriMo next month without overloading projects.

I can't work on Diplomatic Immunity because it's on a dead computer and I need a new motherboard so I can retrieve it, so that leaves basically the Death one because I have it mostly outlined and just need to sit down and do it.
