That's a good question right now.
That's a perfectly legitimate reason for recommending them, Kevin. I mean, the question really boils down to, what do you want to read?

Stiff - the Curious Lives of Human Cadavers looks pretty interesting -- I think I'm going to pick it and her other book up off Amazon, actually. :) I may have to read it with my eyes covered, though. :D

At the risk of embarrassing myself, I haven't participated in the Book Club because most of the suggestions/choices so far have been too literary for me. I read to escape and for adventure, mostly mysteries, cookbooks, true crime, and history.

For certain. I'd buy it on merit of the title alone. I'll keep an eye out if you guys do that one.

I read that just last week, it is VERY interesting! Mary Roach is great at witty writing, but she is never disrespectful when discussing the bodies and related topics. I learned a lot and enjoyed it thoroughly!

For future book clubs, I'd like to see something YA. Theres a pretty large number of us hear writing that. I would like to see some genre stuff too. What about some Alexander McCall Smith (number one ladies detective agency). The writing is absolutely gorgeous and they are so different from anything else out there in the mystery world.

Beach Road - by James Patterson

Remember when I recommended this book? I read it last night.

Oh, Wow.

You like a good plot twist? Read this one.

No spoilers from me ... but ... Oh, Wow.

Home - but for how long?
Book Club suggestions.

1. Everyone post a favourite poem during the quiet 'reading of the next book' period. Don't have to comment except say why you like it!

2. 'Monstrous Regiment' Terry Pratchett
3. 'Dogsbody' Diane Wynne Jones
4. Mamur Zapt series. 'The Snake Charmer's Daughter' Michael Pearce
5. 'Water for Elephants' Sarah Groen
6. Any of the Number One Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith.

Aw, I already read this one. The book I really like of his is I Know This Much Is True and I would read it again. Not that She's Come Undone isn't good but I think the other one is better.

Thanks for that, Train! I just discovered She's Come Undone a few weeks ago and loved it so much I thought I would suggest it for the book club so I could read it again and discuss it. But it makes me happy that you think the other one is even better! I just took it out of the library today. I can't wait to read it! I don't know how I missed Lamb's works?

I've read both of those Wally Lamb books, and would read them again.

I'm kinda interested in something fantasy/adventure, or possibly horror or suspense, this time around. I'd like discussing something that is considered one of the standards for its genre (whether a blockbuster book or well-selling author).
But I'll read anything :D

The Last True Story I'll Ever Tell

I picked it up for the title.
From the introduction, I knew it was a book I didn't want to end. Fast pacing, humourous, scary, in your face action - and a genre we haven't covered: it's a memoir.

I'd love to have an excuse to read it again. (Ha! I'm not even finished yet)

Where is the Book Club?

The thread started in August (Birol), recommendations followed, and ended yesterday with Unique asking What time is it?:)

Let me rephrase my question in the Title line: have you decided on a particular book to read? I noticed titles I didn't know about and I'm planning now to read at least some (Wally Lamb first). How is the club working?
Cheers

Nope, there's no current book selection that I'm aware of for the group, but I'll be glad to coordinate one. Let's give people one more week to make suggestions (until January 19th), then I'll tally the most-suggested titles and we'll vote and read. Sound good?

Sounds good, AmyBa. I'm kind of new, since Dec. and try to figure out how things work. I wasn't sure if I missed something. Guess I'll read Wally Lamb. I've heard about him. I bought The Terrorist (John Updike) but haven't read it yet.
Thanks!
