Hello,
I love mother/daughter relationships in movies/books and I'm certain that everyone here knows about the novel 'The Exorcist.' Chris and Regan are my favourite characters and I already added passages in the book, pertaining to Rags while not possessed, and extended her dialogues with Chris, so that we could see more of her normal self. The problem is that English is not my first language, so would it be possible for someone to read what I have written so far? (it's not that much) and improvise it as well?

I understand if you don't have the time for it, of course.
But thanks in advance!

Sofia

Lunuso,

If you page down on the main page you will see a section entitled "Share Your Work" Click on that, type in "vista" when it asks for the password. Choose what type of genre your work is..."Women's Fiction"... "Contemporary"... or ??? and then start a new thread posting some of your work. There are many members in here that will be more than happy to read what you have written and will guide you with excellent advice about your writing style, etc.

Be sure you say English is your second language.

Good luck!

I'm confused. Are you rewriting The Exorcist? If so, that's not a good idea, since the rights to it are owned by the author.

Thank you brian, emeral :)

No, I'm just extending Chris & Regan dialogues for me, my own pleasure. It is not to publish it or anything.

lunuso, the problem is that you're playing with characters and setting that are owned by someone else, which means that you have no legal right to do so. By posting that here, you are putting Jenna and her site in a potentially messy legal situation.

I would urge you to delete it.

I am sorry. I had no idea. What I've written was just fan fiction, and I would really like it if some writer from this site could help me. I don't want to put anyone in a legal situation. Could you please let me know how do I contact Jenna?

Hi, what if I hide the characters behind a different name? Say, 'Crista' for Chris and 'Megan' for Regan, would someone help me then?
Thanks

Hi lunuso. I'm one of the moderators on AW (the one for the mentoring/partners forum specifically.)

What I'm going to do for now is split a couple of posts from your thread, the ones where you posted an excerpt from your fanfiction. I'm not going to delete them, but MOVE them to the Share Your Work forum which is password-protected. The password is vista. I am going to delete the post where you excerpted directly from Blatty's book---that IS copyright infringement.

It wouldn't be bad idea to change the names of the characters like you suggested. In addition, it's not uncommon for those posting fanfiction to add a disclaimer to their posts acknowleding the characters aren't their own, and no copyright infringement is intended, etc.

I'll make a note of this to the other moderators, specifically Jenna (her screenname is JennaGlatzer, and in the future you can contact her or anyone else by using the private message (PM) function in the upper right hand corner of your screen), so you won't have to. I'll let you know if only moving the posts won't be a final solution.

Oh, and welcome to AW! :)

Hello Katie,

Thank you for your help :) I'm sorry for this inconvenience.

I'm also looking for a writing partner, do you know anyone who might help me on that?

As for writing partners, I can only hope you get a bite from someone from this forum. If you would like to read these posting suggestions and make a new thread to specifically ask about finding a writing partner, I have no objections.
