What Are Friends For ?

Fletcher

A chipmunk called Roger lives under our step
And he’s lived there for such a long time
Nobody knows him apart from us
So he asked me to write you this rhyme

He’s as cute as a button when he comes out to feed
Once weekly we give him a treat
He gets sunflower and millet and all types of nuts
And he picks the food up with his feet

Julie our doggie is NOT his best friend
And Lucy our cat is MUCH worse
As soon as he sees her he runs to his nest
To avoid being her dinner, of course

He sleeps through the winter and snores very loud
So we put a cork in his front door
It softens the noise and keeps the snow out
After all, what are friends for?

Did you want a critique? If so, it would be better to post this in the 'Share Your Work' forum.

Are you writing a collection of poems? Are you envisaging early readers or picture books?

Posting the piece without asking for a specific response is not terribly helpful.
