Unless I have an appointment or other commitment, most mornings I grab my cup of coffee and head for AW school. By that, I mean, I check the threads that I feel will help me improve my writing, then I go on to check others that pique my interest.
I have to say, as far as I’m concerned, this is the best writing community of knowledgeable authors, writers, agents, and editors on the net. Because, as a rule, I am never disappointed and pick up some tip or tidbit every day. Today, I perused the “show, don’t tell” thread, and again found answers to questions I had.
I can’t get enough about comma use, dialogue tags in fiction, proper possessive and plural use. There are so many “correct” and varied opinions on some basic mechanics that it can become confusing at times. But if you read and search long enough, the right answer, pertaining to your particular writing style will show up.
Now, I’m searching for a tutorial on correct capitalization of “terms of endearment” such as hon, darling, etc., when used as pronouns during direct dialogue. Some experts say no, some say yes. What do our experts here say? any threads pertaining to the subject? If so, point me that way, please. Punctuation after question marks, a biggie too.
