i remember reading about this before, but i cant seem to find it.

my question is if my opening scene is black with supers, then what would my slugline be? Ext or int? Or is it just BLACK SCREEN with no slug? Then i want to cut to a close up of a map, which the screen will be filled with. Then what slugline would the map need?

thanks.

BLACK or OVER BLACK

SUPER: Long, long ago, in a stormy teacup far away...

FADE IN:

...As for the map, it's in a location, right? So why not,

INT. LIBRARY - DAY

A MAP

shows the Pacific Rim. A finger stabs at an island in the middle
of blue ocean.

thanks for the fast reply Derek.

But i kinda wanted supers over the map as well.

Do you think Fade in needs to be before the map? Even though it has supers?

Maybe -

OVER BLACK

Super: blah blah

A MAP OF EUROPE

Description of what's on the map.

Super: blah blah

Fade In:

Would that be incorrect if there's description before Fade In?

It's a minor technical picky but FADE IN: is the cinematic "lights up" instruction. So your example's OK except FADE IN: has to go before the map of Europe. It signals the end of OVER BLACK.
