So my husband has had this mass on the side of his neck for several months, and he's been really tired, so last month I made him go to the doctor. Doc ran some tests, and it turned out the hubby had mono, of all things. Well, he went through a few rounds of steroids and antibiotics, and he's feeling a bit better, but the mass is still there.

Saw the neck specialist yesterday, who promptly said, "Well, that's gotta come off." The mass, not his head or anything...

Anyway, they're taking it off because it looks like it may be lymphoma. Surgery isn't till the 21st, and the path report won't be in for a few days after that, which means I have to spend TWO FREAKIN WEEKS wondering if my husband has cancer.

This blows goats.

Ugh! I'm so sorry to hear this, Patti. The same sort of thing happened to me when they were trying to determine whether or not I had lupus. (I don't. It turns out it was CMV.) Those 10 days were like torture. Just try your best to keep your mind and his occupied with other things. It's hard, but it can be done...

Hugs,

Sara

My brain thought it saw "I hate Writing" as a thread title.

My first reaction was "Me too!"

But then I saw it said waiting.

I hate waiting also.

Especially for this type of stuff.

Good luck.

Oh Patti - I'm so sorry to hear this! I hope all will turn out well.
I haven't had to wait that long for results before, but when my son Jack was just 5 weeks old he spent 3 weeks in the hospital, 2 weeks of that on a vent in ICU. We had a couple of times where they had run tests and we would have to wait a day or two for results. The worst was the spinal tap results for meningitis. We waited days for that because it is a culture that they have to wait to "grow", it was torture. Just trying to tell you that I know where you are coming from, I've been there, and it does suck!
Here's some prayers and vibes for strength and health for you and your family!

Patti, this waiting must be torture. Where's a time machine when you need one? My thoughts are with you and your hubby. I hope all turns out and well and please keep us posted.

This blows goats? Damn. When Mr. Maryn was so ill, I did it all wrong!

Waiting for medical results does indeed blow something (other than 'by'). You've got our vibes attuned to the Best Possible Outcome setting.

And remember, we're here 24/7 when you need to vent, or to laugh. Or both.

Maryn, still married

Waiting does indeed stink. But I would like to point out that if he feels better after steroids and antibiotics, it would likely point to something other than cancer.

You and your husband have all of my positive thoughts.

PS my husband had a large mass removed from his face last week - it turned out to be a harmless sebaceous cyst, which are very common on the face and neck area.

Patti, waiting is so stressful, and I've never had much of a talent for patience, either--especially when it comes to things like this.

Before my husband was diagnosed with sarcoidosis, he was very ill and in the hospital; it took more than a week for us to find out what he had. At that time, a shower exhausted him. I was pregnant with our first, and it was scary.

Bless you and your husband and family, Patti. We're pulling for you.

(((Big Hugs)))) Patti

Praying that what you're waiting for turns out to be a flaw in the film and that your husband is well.

Hiding. Try and find me.
Patti, my mother-in-law had a growth on her neck as well but when they removed it it was nothing more than just a cyst. With it being on the neck they want to remove it because if it continues to grow it can occlude the airway, put pressure on the thyroid which in return will cause him to feel tired, gain weight, etc.

I know it is hard to wait but I will give you a peice of advice and many people here might blast me for it. Think the worst so when it comes back as nothing you will be so relieved. If you think it is nothing and it does come back as something it is harder to take. Trust me, I know this. I didn't do it with my grandma and she came back and had cancer everywhere. I did it with my wife when she had something on her ovary and it came back as just a cyst. I also did it when she had some severe pain in her abdomen and no one could find out what it was, for days I thought the worst but it came back as a spleenic infarct and she was fine after a few days.

This is just my way of thinking so I won't be taken by surprise again, it hurts to much. It works for me, it might not work for anybody else. Just a little FYI.

I hope everything is OK though.

I understand your logic perfectly.

Hope for the best but expect the worst, that way you'll never be disappointed.
Works for me.

Hugs... and remember, they have to scare you to justify all the tests they can manage to wring out of you and/or your insurance company. This makes both their accounting department and their lawyers happy while it makes the next Mercedes payment and covers their butt.
