What Songs Make Help You Write

I wrote my first script listening to Red Rider's Neruda album over and over again until permanent mental damage resulted

I try to listen to varied instrumental stuff now when I write

I mainly listen to movie soundtracks without lyrics (any words and I get caught up singing along and forget to write ). I write fantasy so you may notice a common theme in my picks:

My favorites:

Last of the Mohicans: for romantic, introspective parts
Gladiator: for battles and action
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves: my all-time favorite for outright adventure
Lord of the Rings: instant classic
Hero: switch it up a bit with chinese music
Conan the Barbarian: I kind of stumbled onto this online but it's great stuff especially if you're world building or brainstorming.

Again, depending upon the mood of the scene I'm working on, usually jazz. Love anything by Miles Davis. Also, really enjoy Explosions in the Sky's work. I'm the same with lyrics; have a hard time writing words if I'm too busy singin' em!!!

I throw my itunes on shuffle - I have 3000 songs, plenty of variety to get me through a script. Sometimes I write with the TV on in the b.g.
